    Sage Advice Compendium Update 1/30/2019

Planting your flag on a basic structure without considering explicit exceptions and designer commentary and clarification beyond the original source isn't terribly convincing. The oscillating "target-roll-target-roll" method may be correct for Eldritch Blast (in fact, that's how I've always run...

Yet an object that is a valid target for a ranged or melee weapon attack may not be a valid target for a spell attack. Movement between attack rolls is another area in which they differ. I'm not arguing that they aren't incredibly similar. But there are some explicit differences.

Which is a moot point. Resolving weapon attacks and resolving spell attacks have some commonality, but they are not identical.

When I say defer, I'm referring to official interpretation of the rules. It doesn't necessarily mean I plan on running them the same way at my own table. That being said, I'm not the type that goes looking for an answer on the internet regarding a piece of rule advice or interpretation and then...

There's a real question of whether or not you select all targets before you start resolving the attack rolls. Aside from a tweet from Mearls a year into the life of 5e, I can't find anything definitive. He did reply to Crawford, and Crawford didn't correct him, so take that for what it's...

I'd have to find the citation again, but I'm certain the answer to that is "no". EDIT: Actually, not entirely certain. I was thinking of movement. You can't move between iterative spell attacks. Not sure about Misty Step at this point, but I still think it isn't legit.

Why deciding to round down multiclassing spellcaster levels was stupid

If that's your pet peeve, then you're clearly playing the wrong game, sir.

Why deciding to round down multiclassing spellcaster levels was stupid

We're discussing a game steeped in sacred cows and quirky legacies. Offering a disparate analogy as a way to ignore previous standards doesn't allow much room for an honest conversation in regard to whether or not is was stupid or a mistake. FWIW, I believe Pathfinder did eventually have...

Why deciding to round down multiclassing spellcaster levels was stupid

In other words, "I don't like that answer because its historic relevance within the game is inconvenient to my point of view."

Why deciding to round down multiclassing spellcaster levels was stupid

There's been a long precedent of multiclassing inefficiency in D&D. I'm not sure how this is any different than partial BAB not stacking or dead levels of Sneak Attack damage not stacking across classes in 3.x.

Did anybody watch Matt Colville's new campaign stream?

I watched for about 20 minutes. Very impressive setup. One small nitpick: I'm sure they'll tweak things as they move forward, but there's definitely room to improve audio clarity. I don't know if it's the room acoustics or mic positioning or reminding the players not to whisper (I assume...
