    2012 PC Bodycount thread

A one-shot solo adventure ended in death today, so here I am to report it. Yuuko of the Shining Fang, Kitsune Fighter 1 Yuuko died rather unceremoniously in a sewer from a coup-de-grace after being smacked over the head with a club by one member of a trio of bandits she'd been hunting down.

    OotS 852

V and Roy are pretty much polar opposites stat-wise. Roy is balanced, decent at everything, whereas V seems to have managed to dump all 5 of his other ability scores in favour of Int.

Heh, so Roy heard him say "you" when talking to Elan last page did he? I thought Tarquin might have gotten away with that one since it looked like only Elan was around to hear him. Guess not.

    Killer DMs

I've been called a kind killer DM by a few players. That's their opinion though. *shrugs* I know that I'm the only Pathfinder DM in my town who has ever TPK'd a group. (To be fair, there's only 3 local PF DMs. Darn small town...)

Not a TPK. They lost, but weren't killed. I believe it was others in this thread who used the term TPK to refer to this defeat.

Haha, I wish I could XP you for this, but I need to spread it around. Seems like they're mad at themselves for losing and me for not giving them PC immunity. Pathfinder's Jade Regent, Night of Frozen Shadows. The number of monk minions varies from 3 to 9 depending on how much time they've...

Elf Witch: It was Pathfinder, and yes they were running a bit low on healing (doesn't help them that only the witch is capable of it). True, unfortunately. Though I know that they're smart enough to have come up with something better. I've seen them come up with great plans in the past...

You win some, you lose some

Elf Witch: They actually did get two rounds to heal between the two portions of the fight. They put a lot of that focus onto the alchemist first since he's their melee fighter and they were counting on him to protect them in case any more enemies came in before they were ready. The combat itself...

She likely wouldn't have let them get away entirely, but running just far enough back to claim a chokepoint (like the doorway that was one move action away from them) would allow them the clear advantage of having their melee fighter in the door with the casters behind him so that the casters...

You win some, you lose some

Fair enough. That could have worked I suppose. As for your final question, they don't know that. They know for sure that there's an enemy in front of them though. Were I a player in that situation I'd have taken the risk that the way out was clear rather than try to fight at low power against...

GSHamster: As-written, the module has her in an entirely different room when the PCs enter the area where they fight the monks. If the combat goes on long enough and the noise they make is loud enough she notices that it doesn't sound like sparring, and drinks a potion of invisibility, then goes...

They're not actually aware that the assassin was hired only to kill, as this was the first time they met her. The assassin herself actually commented just before things faded to black on the fighter that she didn't expect to be able to take them alive when she was hired, and that her employer...

You win some, you lose some

Four 6th level PCs faced five 4th level NPC monks while the leader of the monks (7th level) looked on invisibly. They won against the regular monks, staying up but all were low-ish on HP. The leader then revealed herself suggesting that they surrender and pointing out that they were injured and...

You win some, you lose some

My players suffered their first total loss tonight and they're mad at me. Very mad. Which raises the question of how people deal with sore losers? I opted not to kill them. Next week they'll be waking up in prison and by then I'll have reworked this dungeon into an 'escape from prison'...

    What's your favorite trap?

Pit trap with an iron-lidded box filled with acid at the bottom. First person to fall in knocks the lid closed. To get out of the acid-filled box they have to lift not only the iron lid, but also the weight of any of their friends who fell on top of the lid. Best used in a place where multiple...

    You're on a Boat . . .

First thing I'd do is start abusing magic, and anyone's right to not have their thoughts sorted through. ...Okay, assuming either no magic, or not enough access to it, I'd start with detaining and isolating everyone present, investigate the scene of the theft to find any clues, and then move on...

Maintaining a fort - what is needed

In terms of stuff, they'll probably want: Food/Water Supplies - To feed the men who maintain the place. (They'll probably want a few capable hunters/gatherers to help keep these stocked as well, or perhaps if they can set up small farms. Depends on the setup of the fort. My players have a fort...

    2012 PC Bodycount thread

Four deaths to report, two of them technically being the same PC. Just as a note, there are some spoilers to the Pathfinder adventure Master of the Fallen Fortress in here. We played MotFF as a one-shot to celebrate the visit of an old group member who we hadn't seen since last year. The...

    Show us your NPC adventurers

I've created 3 characters that are half for the purpose of being NPC adventurers, and half for the purpose of being pregens. These are them: Nesteruk, Half Orc Fighter Lanliss, Elf Druid Acholate, Half Elf Sorceress I'm probably going to round out the group with a human, and maybe one or more...

How Were AoOs / OAs Explained to You?

AoOs were explained to me first with the explanation of what a 5-foot step was, followed by the explanation that if you move past or away from someone by more than a 5-foot step then they get to attack you as they go. It was also explained that I could do the same to enemies moving past or away...
