Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

Not necessarily sinister, but it does become so if everyone just refers to it by that name and nobody seems to know what it actually is. There is a tendency in Star Wars to default to "devastating superweapon", let's hope they manage not to go there this time.

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

Star Wars tech has always been a mix of high and low by our standards. It's 70s future, except it's not even the future, it's long ago and far away. They have intelligent robots, yet most of their interfaces are primitive and manual.

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

I don't think that's the case. The impression I got from the establishing shots was that they were showing the ubiquity of safety droids, not that it was the same one. And if it was, it could have taken the bus.

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

That's kind-of a hazard of choosing people who are disconnected from the rest of the Star Wars universe to be your main characters, but it does also highlight the uncertainty of where they're intending to go with this series. It may turn out to be one that's more enjoyable to watch on a second...

When he's in the droid shop and his parrot-headed buddy catches up with him, he calls him Captain Silvo.

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

So, Jod's other name, to his old crew, is Captain Silvo, which is competing with SM33 for being on-the-nose. Will we eventually learn that the full name he was known by was Long Jod Silvo? Honsetly Disney, if you want to do a live-action Treasure Planet I'm 100% there for it, no need to...

In some cases it'll also be so that they can get in on the discussion, not wanting to come in without all the facts but also not wanting to only join in after it's all been discussed to death.

He could just as easily be a rogue Inquisitor. Maybe he got his name from the lightsaber he kept from his old job.

Spoilers TV Shows with Great Endings

That reminds me of Walton Goggins's character in Justified. I liked that show overall when I binged it, but never did get why we followed his character so much and were seemingly expected to empathise with him and root for him in his efforts. For all his charm he was still a criminal who got a...

Spoilers TV Shows with Great Endings

I concluded somewhere near the end of season 1 that the writers had no more idea of the answers to their questions than the audience did, so I stopped actively watching around then. However, I had a flatmate at the time who remained an avid viewer and the TV and my PC were both in the lounge, so...

D&D General Muscular Neutrality (thought experiment)

Perhaps one way to look at it would be through the lens of the Planescape, in which places drawn too much towards one alignment or ideal may be displaced into planes better reflecting that ideal. In those terms, the material plane is literally "neutral territory" not particularly aligned with...

Spoilers TV Shows with Great Endings

Which would be fine, if the show's metanarrative, aftershows, marketing etc. hadn't been selling the audience the idea that it was the point, that there were real answers out there, and if they could only piece together all the clues that were being fed to them they'd find those underlying truths.

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

If the place is remote, I could see Palpatine having chosen to centralise currency production under his rule. It might even have been in or beyond territory claimed by the Separatists. But it feels like they've been isolated longer than that, somehow. And what even is the barrier, anyway...

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

My mind initially went to "banking planet" but I'm betting it's significantly more than that. I'd consider galactic stock market, but that wouldn't explain how it kept functioning in isolation. Perhaps the Republic mint? Fern teases Wim about mines beneath the school, maybe they were minting the...

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

That's assuming that a bunch of pirates are sticking to the same nomenclature that's been established out-of-universe. They might just as easily be referring to the Republic as a whole as the "old Republic" to differentiate it from the current New Republic.

Yeah, I was waiting for a typically personable droid name, so all I thought when I heard it was "Well, that doesn't exactly trip off the tongue."

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

We've literally seen one suburb and the homes aren't that big and luxurious for entire families. That's a huge stretch. None of that seems particularly out of place in comparison to most real-world schools. That part's interesting. There are several species on the world, and they're...
