    PCs questioning DMs

What's a fighter doing questioning the rules of magic?! XP penalty baby! :p After that, I'd ask them when's the last time they fought a lolth and how would they know any different? Unless they've done some deep research (and even that should not reveal the combat tactics) about lolth, I'd...

[SCOOP] New 3.5 Monster Manual Cover

I'm a bit concerned over how all their new revised books talk about the "integration" of the new miniatures line. How much space could it possibly take to explain how minis work? And is this the kind of info we need in the MM? I would think the combat chapter in the PHB should suffice, but...

Has anybody's SVGames order shipped yet?

I did not recall ANY notice about the shipping date when I placed my order several weeks ago. Special price or not, they've got a customer service problem if they don't respond to their emails and phone calls. They are starting to remind me of New Wave.

I'm Giving a Speech about D&D, please help.

Why not start your speech like a game session? Read a short passage to get them, "in the game," then ask them, "what would you do?" Besides giving them a real taste for the game, even if it is just a brief one, it will get them thinking while you move on with your speech. It's a good way to...

(OT)Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heavens Door

First, we do have a forum for movies and television shows. This does not belong in the general forum. Second, I totally feel that this is an excellent anime feature film that displays a lot more depth and edge than anything American animation has to offer. It's still presentable to kids...

    Magic Scrolls, Need Power Ideas

I think my difficulty resides in the premise of how such a magic item exists. A magic scroll that gives spell resistance for a certain number of rounds? How? Why does it work like that? And how does it identify the person it was "meant" to be with? It doesn't make any sense to me. I don't...

    Expeditious Retreat

I'm with Andion as far as the official interpretation goes. I would let Expeditious Retreat effect the base ground movement of most creatures. It would be worthwhile to develop a different spell to effect base movement of flying and swimming creatures. What does not work well is allowing...

    Sling and STR bonuses

F = M x A It doesn't get any simpler than that. I will agree that strength can aid in the speed of a sling, but I have seen Palestinian kids that have used slings all their lives hit targets at distance with great accuracy. I guarantee if Arnold Schwartzenager learned to use a sling he...

    Rope Trick ?

It states up to 8 people should be permitted, "into this place of safety." Beyond that, I'd say that you can be permitted to sleep, eat, study, or whatever else you want to do (within reason) for the duration of the spell. Granted, there shouldn't be anything in the room besides the 8 people...

    Sling and STR bonuses

The force of a blow from a sling stone comes more from the speed of the swing and the size/shape of the stone rather than the strength of the weilder. I would not allow a STR bonus, but might allow for a halfling attack bonus as a house rule.

    [OT] Noisy Profiles of Posters

Like gamecat said, this belongs in meta. Anybody who has a sig bigger than their average post is annoying IMO. A sig should be brief, and show a bit of individual expression. What it shouldn't be is a large block of waste before getting to the next post. As an example, imagine if everybody...

Chicago ENWorldians--what are you doing Sunday, 3/30 night?

I work weekends, so not much I can do on Sunday. Do make an attempt to visit Games Plus if you get the chance. Although they are in Mt. Prospect there is a train stop right across the street from them if you can manage the train schedule. If you love minis I promise you won't regret the trip.

    Does anybody not use dungeons?

Any dungeons I use are often limited in size. Ever since the Sunless Citadel, which I thought was a bit too bloated a structure to stay intact AND get swallowed by the earth, I've kept most of my underground areas natural or mostly natural.

    [OT] "Photo"-Reading Systems

There's a book called, "Remember Everything You Read," by Stanley D. Frank, Ed.D. That's the one I used anyway. I even have his tape course, though I've never used it. It's a solid intro to speed-reading, and I've found that it works well. I don't practice it enough, but after you hit a...

Ultimate Equipment Guide vs. Arms & Equipment Guide: Which one to buy?

The price of WotC's A&EG is outrageous IMO. It's enough to remind me that I don't need more than the 3 core books to play the game. Mongoose always towing the "munchkin" side of things, with more powerful classes, more powerful magic, more powerful everything has made them a poor reputation in...

    Caster tactics to escape grappling

I've always made it a habit to spend some points in escape artist. It's folley to rely on your party members to come to your rescue when they've probably got their own problems in the middle of combat. BTW, what the heck is your wizard doing in grapple range, anyway?!
