D&D General Dungeon Magazine's Top 30 Adventures: Do they hold up?

I found "The Assassins Knot" to be the worst module I ever played (way back in the day, so I can't remember the details), but there is the glaring ommision of "The Red Hand of Doom" which is one of the best D&D campaigns ever (even if the end was a little hokey).

D&D General Empire of the Ghouls - campaign journal

If anyone else is interested in running this campaign, here is where to find it: Empire of the Ghouls for 5th Edition - Kobold Press Store

D&D General Empire of the Ghouls - campaign journal

Inspired by @Nebulous and their excellent campaign recaps, I've decided to post mine - set in the same world of midgard. This is Empire of the Ghouls campaign and so far it has been excellent. We are running it most weeks on roll20. I've been too lazy this time to write up a campaign journal...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, how do you fudge?

All my dice rolls are out in the open. Players know that in every encounter there is a chance they might die and that makes the game better. The characters are up to level 6 now in the current campaign and there have been 2 deaths so far. My last campaign was the Tomb of Annihilation and only...

D&D General Math Question re: 3d6 vs. 4d6 drop one

I remember back in the old days you rolled 3d6 in order and then chose your class based on what you rolled. - So you didn't get to pick which attributes got the high scores. If you rolled really well in multiple stats then you could start working towards being a bard or a paladin. I think...

D&D General Math Question re: 3d6 vs. 4d6 drop one

However..... arguably only one of the stats is really important, one is a bit important and the rest not-so-much depending on the character class. So I would argue that 2 feats is a suitable replacement for doing 3d6 stat generation rather than 4d6 drop lowest.

    D&D 5E (2014) Reactions for all monsters!

Reactions are good, but I would either keep them to important monsters (like the BBEG) or make them quite specific so that they are not getting used every round. I'd hate to run a battle against 10 skeletons and every time someone takes a turn one or more skeletons get to react to it. I feel...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiverse Theory and you

I'd like to do a multiverse spanning 'Rod of Seven Parts' campaign, but that would entail learning about (and paying for) far too many campaign worlds for my limited time.

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiverse Theory and you

A friend and me designed two overlapping campaigns. His was in Mystera and mine in Greyhawk. The conceit was that the two worlds would collide - this started out through people and monsters getting swapped into the different worlds and climaxed with two major cities suddenly inhabiting the same...

D&D 5E (2014) YOU are pitching the next big WotC Adventure. What is it???

The Rod of Seven Parts, but across the D&D multiverse with every part being in a very different world.

D&D General War! What is it Good For (in your campaigns)?

Shout out to Red Hand of Doom (3e) - Wizards of the Coast | Dungeons & Dragons 3.x | Dungeons & Dragons 3.x | Dungeon Masters Guild which I think is one of the best D&D modules and is definitely the best I have seen for addressing how PCs can get involved in an engaging way in an active war...

D&D General Backpacks and Sacks Carrying Capacity and Dimensions

I just want to point out here that a couple of sessions ago one of my players discovered why you don't put a bag of holding into a Heward's handy haversack. His character may return much later in the campaign, but for now he has had to roll up a new character.

D&D 5E (2014) Who Picks the Campaign? DMs, Players, and Choice

The campaign world and general storyline are always my decision. If I don't feel invested then any campaign will whither and die. However within that I give players fairly free reign around races, characters backgrounds and then fit the campaign around what they design. This (for me) is the best...

D&D General Your favorite way to start a D&D campaign?

Changes every time, and especially depends on if: It's a sandbox campaign It's a published campaign It's a mix 'n' match One or more of the characters has provided a good hook in their background If I really have the planning time, I like the first adventure to be action oriented, but to lead...

D&D 5E (2014) What level do you like to start at?

Level 1, but everyone starts with an extra feat. It makes it feel less vanilla while still having the characters start nice and fragile.

D&D General DMs, how do you handle 'split party' situations?

Splitting the party can be deadly. Going a little ahead is fine, but go too far ahead and you might be in big trouble. In my current game a character scouted too far ahead, was suprised by a pack of ghouls and killed in a surprise round. Not great, but certainly made the group realise that this...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dnd 5e, but everything is a “spell”

You should try Numenara or Cypher System. It's a long time since I played these but I think they use that base mechanic. Good fun and you have a lot more narrative control as a player than in D&D. Worth a look anyway.

D&D General Kobayashi Maru: Should the fate of the character always be in the player's hands? POLL

It depends on your story. If a story is completely character driven then killing off that character kills the campaign. If the story is event driven, then a character can die and other characters can pick up the story. My campaigns tend to have a bit of a mix of those, but I think that it is...
