    Unbalanced Encounters

I'm not really interested in continuing this, as it is derailing the topic further. We'll agree to disagree.

    Unbalanced Encounters

Hmm, seems to make sense by RAW but I'd never allow it RAI. You can only mark as a hybrid Fighter when using a Fighter exploit, so if that's the case then there's no way a Paladin feature should also trigger a Fighter one. Thanks for clearing it up, in any case.

Advice on Whether or Not to Join Encounters

@Pour : The DM really shouldn't have taken those sheets, you left them there for the other players, not him. I would stop by at the next session and ask them if they got the sheets you left at the store for them, and then give them all your business card so they have your email address if they...

    Unbalanced Encounters

These are all marks. If you use Divine Challenge, then Combat Challenge goes away. Same with Aegis, Foe Caller, etc etc etc. Marked is a condition just like any other and thus can't be stacked. Moreover, Rapid Combat Challenge just allows the first Combat Challenge you make to not count as your...

    Unbalanced Encounters

Ah, silly me, I never think to look at epic. Still though, how are you triggering Combat Challenge and Divine Challenge at the same time? You can't usually mark with both.

Gencon: Any non-Essentials content coming up?

Fun fact: Defender's Aura and your choice of the at will stances are "always on". The only time they fail is if you fall unconscious. Source: Greg Bilsland, Trevor Kidd, and the Encounters pregen cards. I never understood the "everyone is a wizard" argument myself. The fact that you have...

    Unbalanced Encounters

Not to derail, but how? The only way I can find to do what you describe is to break the fundamental rules of immediate actions, which would make any defender insanely powerful. On topic, ignore the brick wall defender. He can take it, but he can't dish it out. Then start throwing in some...

Optimized and Non-Optimized in the same group.

ITT: Trolls trolling trolls On topic, everyone interested in this issue should read this. tl;dr- CharOp matters far less than group tactics and teamwork. A poorly optimized group that works together will be more effective than a super optimized one that doesn't. The only exception is blatantly...

    Young Green Dragon's Instinctive Flyby

I would consider the instinctive action to be completely separate from recharges, personally. It gets to do this every turn regardless of the state of the recharge.

Has the DM fallen from grace?

Says the guy cherrypicking examples that support his point of view. Nobody has said you should take 4e as-is and run it without a DM. Make up your mind, are we talking D&D in general or are we going to get 4e specific here?

    Teleportation at level 1

A prison escape seems like the perfect time to let the Eladrin player be the star of the show for a bit, personally. He bamfs out and concocts a way to get everyone else free. Just make sure that you provide some methods for clever solutions to the problem other than multiple 5 minute waits.

Has the DM fallen from grace?

You've missed the purpose and role of the DM entirely, as well as his/her relationship to the players, if this is truly what you believe. :erm:

Has the DM fallen from grace?

Let me ask this, why is it suddenly a bad thing for the DM to fade out a bit? Would a DM-less, party-arbitrated system really be so terrible?

Has the DM fallen from grace?

Holy beans this thread reeks of subjectivism. Just because YOU did or didn't have a problem with a design implementation doesn't mean that OTHER PEOPLE had the same experience. Adjusting on the fly was a pain in 3.x. I don't know if it's been streamlined any in PFRPG but this forum isn't about...

Readied action and immediate action question

Readied actions are immediate interrupts, so no.

    Evard's shadow

It's a sequel only insofar as it mentions Evard and the suggested plot hooks are NPCs in the season. There's almost nothing to tie it to Encounters. It's a pretty bland adventure really; the skill challenge at the start is delivered horribly and the rest is non stop combat without even the...

    What is an effect?

Technically, no -- despite them being the same duration, the new supersedes the old, much like with marks.

How to play a mute character

If you take any route that limits your ability to communicate at the table, make absolutely sure that the other players are okay with it first, or are prepared to simply be swept aside in all conversations.

    WotC RPG Dept. Re-Orgs

Between his Dungeon Master Experience articles and speaking to him in person, I feel I can confidently say that Perkins is better in his "nuts and bolts" editor/producer role anyway. The perspective he takes on the game and the ways he gets fired up about it make him ideal for that spot, instead...

    June Errata

Actually...IME, if you get to go first and have a mass disable or another ability that also lets all the other players go first too (time warp, I think? some wizard spell) then yeah, it's a pretty good bet.
