When my dad had a stroke he was having trouble using a mouse, so got him a trackball. This worked great for a while, but then it started not working intermittently. Now, my dad had bought full support from Dell when he bought his computer, so he calls up their tech support line. Of course, the...

D&D General Reassesing Robert E Howards influence on D&D +

I think there was a Giants book either in the same series or a knock off. I remember that one as well as the gnomes one from when I was a kid.

D&D General Reassesing Robert E Howards influence on D&D +

Snit Smashing was in Dragon #10, and The Awful Green Things from Outer Space was in Dragon #28. Wham's Wikipedia entry lists four other games of his which were published in Dragon, but I'm not familiar with any of them.

I don't know what is up with everyone's fascination with modern Greek food. The 19th century stuff was really much better. The simpler recipes lead to a better dining experience. That style of cooking is really coming back now. They're calling it the Old Greek Revival or Old Greek Renaissance...

    D&D General Druid lich?

When I think of a lich I think of someone seeking immortality. How would a druid do that? Two things that come to mind are fungi, who have strange connections we don't really understand and could send out spores when killed to reproduce; and the forest that is all part of the same organism...

D&D General "I'd like to run (or play in) an all ___________ campaign." (+)

I did an all full-caster campaign and an all multi-class campaign (no one could have more than six levels in any one class). An all fighter group during a war might be good. In terms of races an all halfling campaign might be good, but I'm not sure how to make it so none of them want to be on...

I have avoided it so far. One of the times when my isolation is an advantage. My mother, my brother, and (I think) one of my sisters got it.

D&D 5E (2014) How much should it cost to use a permanent teleportation circle?

I think it would be more economical to set up an associated object network using teleport. Yes, you need a 13th level caster instead of a 9th level caster, but you don't have to spend the money making a permanent circle. You just need to make sure to teleport objects from the target locations...

Some mechanisms (often ported from the old days) are putting the incentives in the wrong place - blog post discussion

Okay, I see the confusion. I was trying to make a general point about bonuses and penalties. I was not trying to make a specific point about 5E carrying capacity. So even if the point doesn't hold for 5E carrying capacity because you fell those rules are horrible, the general point can still be...

I understand the carrying capacity rules in 3.5 and 5, I just don't see how it's relevant to my point, which you seem to have completely missed, so I guess we're even.

Some mechanisms (often ported from the old days) are putting the incentives in the wrong place - blog post discussion

I don't understand what you are saying. How did they matter in different ways? I mean, you're not even tracking the second one. So one gives you a bonus and one you didn't track because it was GM fiat? How does relate to phrasing penalties as bonuses? Again, I don't understand. You are again...

Some mechanisms (often ported from the old days) are putting the incentives in the wrong place - blog post discussion

But my point is that whether it's a good benefit or a bad cost is purely your perspective. If you change your perspective it's all good benefit or it's all bad cost.

Some mechanisms (often ported from the old days) are putting the incentives in the wrong place - blog post discussion

This seems like a perspective problem. Say encumbrance drops your speed by 10 feet. You don't want to track it because it's just a penalty involved, nothing positive. Fine: reduce everyone's base speed by 10 feet, but you get an extra 10 feet of movement if you're not encumbered. Functionally...
