    D&D 5E (2014) Player Hit Points

Yeah, I was not giving max at first level to either one. If you give max at first level to both, it should have results similar to mine, as your later post shows.

Campaigns in a nutshell. Adventures in a sentence.

I had a similar idea to this for a Dungeons & Dragons campain (it's all dungeon crawls, and every dungeon has a dragon in it). The patron of the group is actually another dragon who is trying to clear out the competition. But he can't do it openly because the other dragons will gang up on him.

D&D General How many DMs buy (official) adventures?

It would be better to compare sales of the adventures to sales of the DMG.

Describe your last RPG session in more than 5 words.

Gork is not a deity, he's just a really rude goblin who been enchanted to follow the rogue's orders. It was fun for a session, but I can tell already that I'm going to have to kill off Gork pretty soon.

    D&D 5E (2014) Player Hit Points

It's going to give a slight edge over normal rolling. Say you roll 2d8. That's a nice triangular distribution, easy to calculate. Now say you roll 1d8 and call it x. Then your roll 2d8, but the minimum result is x + 1. That minimum result is going to push your result up a bit. As it turns out...

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM, how do you handle monster hit points?

I have a python program for running combat. It typically rolls hit points for monsters for me. However, I can set a group of the same monster as having one initiative, and for groups like that it uses the average hit points. These are settings I can change, but I don't remember ever doing so...

    D&D 5E (2014) Player Hit Points

??? The average given in the PHB is greater than the average of the roll given in the PHB. For example, the Bard entry says "1d8 (or 5) + your constitution modifier ..." The average of 1d8 is 4.5, which is less than 5. Or am I misunderstanding what you said?

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

No, I don't. It's only the wrong term in a specific technical context. Playing D&D is not that context, so it is not the wrong term.

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

That's a technical definition within biology. Colloquially, the snake is poisonous. I am a DM, not a biology professor, so I don't worry about this. And IMHO technically correct is the worst kind of correct.

    Clues vs Downtime

5E, high fantasy homebrew world, and I'm thinking of making them more powerful by sort of giving them ASIs and feats.

    Clues vs Downtime

So I am trying to figure out my next campaign. I would like downtime to be a part of that. However, I tend to make adventures where PCs find clues that lead them to other adventures. If they know where the possible adventures are, most of the players aren't going to want to do downtime. How do...

Peer-Reviewed Study Says Dungeons & Dragons Good for Mental Health

Exactly. There are lots of studies showing that chess after school is good for children's grades. But when they did a broader study, they found that it was just having an after school activity that was good, and chess wasn't better than anything else.

D&D 5E (2024) What Should A New Core Setting Look Like?

It's not sci-fi, though it is definitely must-see. It's setting is more 50s, with an army vet up against a biker gang. Incredibly stylish, though.

That doesn't sound right. (Pokes around.) Nope, that is not right. (Thinks about it for a second.) Someone else can tell them their wrong.

D&D 5E (2014) Chris Perkins Lays Down Some Lore: Who Was Vecna?

I've always assumed Vecna was Corum Jhaelen Irsei, but I guess they wouldn't want to do that officially.
