What are you reading in 2022?

It really is. I (re)read it and the sequels (for the first time) last year, and have not explanation for how I didn't grok its awesomeness the first time. It's possible I never actually read it, and just thought I did.... Bummer that the rest of the series is still stuck in the author's head...

So what are you reading this year 2021?

How are you liking it? I keep forgetting that exists when it comes time to make a book list.

So what are you reading this year 2021?

I wasn't disappointed by Leviathan Falls. My gf was a little annoyed at how fast I finished it though.

So what are you reading this year 2021?

The books really grew on me. My reaction to the first was "Oh look, they're doing "X" in space now", but then it actually went somewhere. There's definitely a blockbuster/popcorn action movie sort of quality, but they're also well written, very well planned out, and solid. Not a neverending...

    So, Wandavision?

She's moving on from Vision's death, and "learning to deal with expanded abilities". Obviously the rationale changes with every story, but the arc is fundamentally unchanged.

    So, Wandavision?

It's a hero broken/hero redeemed arc, and basically returns her to neutral. Hero goes bad for <reasons>; hero does <bad things>; hero realizes what they have done; deeper hidden villain is revealed to have orchestrated or taken advantage of <bad things>; hero undoes <bad things> at a personal...

So what are you reading this year 2021?

Reading, or rereading, personal "foundational works" is pretty awesome. I can very clearly attribute my interest in D&D to Joel Rosenberg's The Sleeping Dragon, in which a group of college gamers is transported to a fantasy world by their gamemaster/professor. I also encountered the 1e Monster...

So what are you reading this year 2021?

I haven't kept up with King in ages; this sounds like one that'd tie into, or at least reference, Firestarter and possibly Carrie (plus others, no doubt).

So what are you reading this year 2021?

These were must-buys for me until Mr. Dozois passed away a couple of years ago. I reread a bunch of them a few years ago, and found my memory was not deceiving me; I really did absolutely loathe a LOT of SF in the late 90's.

    So much good.

So what are you reading this year 2021?

OK, am I high or does the MMPB edition of Death of the Necromancer go for a totally insane price? Because it's a good book, and I want to (re)read more Martha Wells, but I will ABSOLUTELY consider selling my copy for $200+ dollars...

So what are you reading this year 2021?

Read: Use of Weapons, by Ian M Banks; 4/5 (I actually read this a while ago, and forgot it in the previous recap.) Red Seas Under Red Skies, by Scott Lynch; 5/5 The Republic of Thieves, by Scott Lynch; 5/5 How Long 'Til Black Future Month, by NK Jemisin; 4/5 The Last Watch, by JS Dewes; 3/5...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC: 5 D&D Settings In Development?

Forgotten Realms, but covering the Sea of Fallen Stars/Moonsea region. It's the classic heart of FR, and nowadays there are a lot of different cultures there for WotC to expand on.

So what are you reading this year 2021?

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I'd read it or not, but I had the distinct impression that I was kinda "meh" on it if I had. One page in, I KNEW I'd read it, but I was completely wrong about the "meh" part. I went ahead and got the next two from Amazon, a little splurge of mine. (As usual, I might have...

So what are you reading this year 2021?

Apparently it's been a while since I did this. I've read... The 1st & 3rd books of the 2nd Mistborn trilogy, by Brandon Sanderson, 4/5; Elantris, by Brandon Sanderson, 4/5; The Sorcerer's Ship, by Hannes Bok, 3/5; The Quest of Kadji, by Lin Carter, 3/5; The Poppy War, by R.F. Kuang, 4/5; Rook &...

So what are you reading this year 2021?

I generally don't lend books; I give them. And the best ones I try to buy used copies of when i find them so I have spares.

D&D 5E (2014) Two New D&D Books Revealed: Feywild & Strixhaven Mage School

That definitely a possibility. I would still lean towards it actually being an adventure/campaign arc, or at least 50%+ of the book being that, but it could be setting. Theros was quite cool.

D&D 5E (2014) Two New D&D Books Revealed: Feywild & Strixhaven Mage School

WotC has HEAVILY emphasized bounded settings and defined campaign styles for each settings with 5e. A Potter-esque school of magic is totally in line with that. That's...part of the cycle, I guess. Not to be blase about it, but Placescape and Dark Sun didn't interest me much when they came out...
