    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

Not evenly powered in one straight line. Wizards sucker hard at low levels and ruled at higher levels. In theory differing xp tables with stats that did different things provided different bits for different characters to fill in. 3rd ed changed a bit of that and 4e took it further. I see no...

Edited out as I didn't see the mod's post.

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

Looks around.... The soul of the game? M'eh. When WoTC evened martials with spell casters, it became a new game. The 'soul' of the game isn't a consideration at this point anymore. Or at least, to me. If 5e brings back leveled spells like Wish or Miracle, etc..., then we can start talking...

(WHUMP!) My Tome of Horrors just arrived

Given that ye old Orcus wanted to make this one of the first books for 4e, I think it's important to note how successful its been and how WoTC needs to learn. In addition, it's not 'edition', it's OGL/GLS. While it may seem related, game mechanics aren't involved here at all. I play both editions.

(WHUMP!) My Tome of Horrors just arrived

as I noted over at RPG.net, this book is a truimpth for the OGL, and a great nod to the strength of the original books. The fact that it already went back for a reprint is strong stuff. It's also a failure for WoTC. everyone who buys this with the intention of using it, is not necessarily...

If I could ask WotC for a few reasonable things...

How about electronic editions of the printed books? And this is more of a question, but are full scale maps finally include in Dungeon magazine for the adventurers? I could never understand why they didn't include such maps since they already had the map as an electronic file to begin with.

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

Other Things WoTC Could do to Make 5e more useful: PDF and eBooks of your rules. DDI provides some access to this information in electronic format but not enough. In addition, these should be priced similiar to other companies to reduce piracy. If iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, and others can figure...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

I've been saying that for years. When I saw Green Ronin do it with True 20, it made perfect sense. Once you no longer go the route of pre 3rd ed where stats having the same score meant different things depending on the stat, the actual utility of having 3-18 is diminished vastly.

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

Eh? "Unfortunately, we will not have a data update ready for the D&D Insider tools in September. The process of integrating the new changes from Dark Sun and Essentials is taking a bit longer than we expected, and we plan to update the Character Builder in early October. We will continue to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

For me, there are a lot of things that WoTC can do to make 5e more apparently useful. 1. Embrace the OGL. 2. Don't badmouth 4e to showcase 5e. 3. Don't lie to your fanbase. For example, telling them that the DDI will be updated soon when in fact it's going to be completely changed. 4. Have...

the tablet war is heating up

Completely sold out when I found out about the price. They did a great Hitler spoof if it though.

3.5e/Pathfinder fans tell me what you think about essentials

I like some parts of essentials. Getting rid of rituals was pants. Making some of the classes like fighters a touch easier to use for newbes seemed right on. The format is interesting but WoTC already took it out back, shot it in the head and left it to die. The new focus on some of the fluff...

    Anybody read Brandon Sanderson?

Amazon.com: Mistborn: The Final Empire (Mistborn, Book 1) eBook: Brandon Sanderson: Kindle Store 2.99 for the first book in the Mistborn series. I've read the Mistborn series and thought it well done. The ending honestly surprised me and I'm usually one of those smart asses whose like, "X is...

Gardmore Abbey is pretty darn good

I'm glad to hear that it's a solid heroic adventure. I hope that they can take some of these design chops to higher level printed material soon.

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Announces More Details about Minis Line

Yeah, but how much? Surely they're going to let potential customers know ahead of time how much the dragon will cost prior to that. That would be completely bad business to not do so. and Paizo, thus far, hasn't seemed like that type of company. "Interested in the black dragon? well, you can...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Announces More Details about Minis Line

Little disappointed that we got no info on the black dragon yet. If the potential to buy it winds up another $75 for the black I'll be curious to see the reaction. Especially as Reaper has their own resin black coming out soon.

Legends and Lore : The Fine Art of Dungeon Mastering

Beating a dead horse at this point. 3rd ed didn't necessarily start this direction of 'neutralzing' the GM but it certainly moved forward with it. 4e took that on head first. The next edition they make, I hope they realize that there are, oh, 4 to 5 times as many players as there are DM's and...

    Rise of the Runelord Checklist?

I have the six books. I have the dice! I have the cards. Is there anything else that would assist in running this? Any regional sourcebooks or player books that provide a helping hand?
