Open Design has done several 4e based compatible books.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder APs: Best candidates for conversion to legacy D&D?

This is purely my opinion. All of them. For me, 4e was the breaking point of conversions. It's not that its impossible, but the game works under different mechanical assumptions than previous edition in terms of spellcasters scaling, etc... The important thing to remember though, is that the...

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

But let's not kid outselves here. There was problems with the OGL too. The problem was that it rode the back of WoTC. The 3.5 horror stores you could hear form Green Ronin and others show cased that relying almost soley on another company's product line is not necessarily the best way to grow...

[Open Design] Soldiers of Fortune is here!

Bought this thanks to the sale. I hate to have a formatting question right out the bat, but is there a PDF that doesn't have the gray background? I'd hate to kill my printer for this and it seems like something that would be taken into account from a PDF perspective in terms of being printer...

    Is Wotc Slipping?

When asking the question is WoTC slipping, I keep thinking of those commercials. "Is trying to leave a boring meeting in tap dancing shoes a really bad idea?" When you've got WoTC people chimming up that the reason their Dungeon and Dragon articles are so late, when they appear at all, is poor...

the tablet war is heating up

How do you see that working out though? I believe in the Euro zone, the tablets are actually able to be used as phones. in addition, several of the tablets stateside are available with a carrier with a reduced fee with a 2 year contract including the Xoom and the iPad.

    Inner Sea Campaign Setting book

$.9.99 for the PDF. In the past, the game books have been that price. For them to put the setting at this price seems new to me. Great mind you, but new. Could Paizo also be moving towards an 'app' pricing? You already get PDFs when you subscribe...

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

If the license isn't supportive of 3rd party efforts, especially getting product out the door when the game first launches, what else is there to understand? This is essentially what killed Necromancer games and shelved Tengel Manor, although Clark's got to suck some up on that for not having...

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

Eh? No, the saddest changeover was the loss of the OGL and the creation of the GSL. That latter bit did more to destroy 4th ed than I believe even WoTc latest bumblings with the 'Monster Builder'.

    DDI Monster Builder

As a former subscriber, I would like to thank WoTC for continuing to insure that i remain a former subscriber and saving that money every month. Thanks WoTC!

New D&D Monster Builder Coming March 22

Another opportunity to recoup some of the dropped subscribers from earlier and ongoing flubs wasted. Well, at least wasted on me. I don't pay to beta test something I used to have that was better.

    [March] What are you reading?

Hell, if we're throwing graphic novels into the mix, Walking Dead hardcover vol 4. I'm a bit behind the series. I like the hardcovers becuase they collect 12 issues at a shot and don't cost that much more when you get 'em discounted. Two to go to catch up. One of these days I'll have to check...

D&D 5E (2014) What Should My Next Character Be?

Just spoke with one of the other players. Apparently after I was killed and headed out, they keept playing and wound up losing the paladin so that player is now making a cleric. Think it might be time to try out an Essentials Wizard at this point.

D&D 5E (2014) What Should My Next Character Be?

My good old cleric of kord, a mighty dwarf named Algrim has passed this eve. Now the challenge comes of another character! I'd like to help the party out by filling a missing role and not stepping on anyone else's 'stick' to to speak. We have a large party, but its rare that everyone shows...

Dragon 397 - Table of Contents

How exactly would that work for the print magazines? Some months, half or a third the content with the same cover price? The next month with double or tripple the content to make up for it? The only reason WoTC can do these things is because Dragon and Dungeon, as magazines, are dead and the...

    Modern Appendix N

The problem with some of that though, is if we look at modern day we're essentially ignoring the giants in the room. I can't be the only person who has seen people without any background in fantasy act and assume that all that is now is all that was and that the lack of well, effort on those...

    Modern Appendix N

Appendix N Latest go around for me has been James Enge that another blogger turned me onto. Good stuff. In terms of 'Modern' thought? The influence and abilities of older material should be kept close in terms of the roots of the genre. I find Paizo's Planet stories do an excellent job of...

New D&D Monster Builder Coming March 22

I hope improvements are made immediately such as export and hope that it actually comes out on time without some massive memory leaks or other issues that DDI has suffered from. I would like to sub again but I'm not giving them money for beta testing
