How Quick Will Level Advancement Be?

Here's one I think the answer to will be interesting. With all the talk of everyone and their moma having a seat at the table, how does that work when the basic fundamentals of player advancement are vastly different? Prior to 3rd edition, xp was not necessarily gained through just slaughter...

Pathfinder 1E is a big Pathfinder surge on the way?

At this point, I don't think Paizo has to worry about it. Their core book is on something like a 4th printing. Their starter boxed set seems to be doing well. They have numerous support books already printed and more in the pipeline. Their adventure path program shows no sign of slowing...

Pathfinder 1E is a big Pathfinder surge on the way?

Ring ring. I mean, man what? WoTC has failed at providing anything resembling reqular printed adventure support and thanks to the OGL that Pathfinder embraces, even if Paizo stops publishing tomorrow, there will be plenty of Pathfinder adventurers unlike say, 4e where the WoTC license is so...

Pathfinder 1E is a big Pathfinder surge on the way?

No. I won't say everyone who plays 4e dislikes the game engine of 3e, I know I don't, but the majority of them will be looking forward to at least see what 5e has before switching systems, keeping with 4e, or just stop playing alltogether.

    Making Magic Magical Again?

I think you have to give game balance a whack upside the head and allow for more randomness in what the players get, can use, and most importantly, can buy. Restrcitions and rarity will go a lot further than awesome descriptions and Wallmart shops with discounted potions.

The Treasure of Treasures - and the Richness thereof

I rant a little about this in my latest blog Appendix N: The Hammer by K. J. Parker or more blathering about 5h Editio Let me copy the pieces that are relevant I could also have talked about inteligent magical items, which I can't recall any unique ones in 4e, but that's just me, or the old...

    [January] What are you reading?

Finished off the Hammer with some thoughts here Appendix N: The Hammer by K. J. Parker or more blathering about 5h Editio Now onto the Company by the same author.

Gaming Fans Absolutely Blow My Mind - A Rant

Because those people are wrong. And I'm going to tell you how! Or could be a bit of the ole sitting around the table randomly bitching but that game table is now the internets.

Monster Stand-Ins (plastic-card minis) Kickstarter Stands Update & Poll

Already a member. Its sounding good and it sounds like something worth supporting.

Yer candidate for the monster on 5th MM1

I'd also like every monster to have a description with it. One that doesn't talk about how fierce it is or how savage, but you know, descriptive in terms of edged teeth, backwards legs, fangs, beak, cannine, etc...

D&D: Would Less be More? (Setting Assumptions)

I just finished K. J. Parker's The Hammer. Like the previous book by Parker I read, The Folding Knife, the main characters are very innovative. And it strikes me, that to me, part of the problem in D&D is that with some of their settings, even the POL ones, that too much is already done and...

the tablet war is heating up

Keep an eye on amazon for the app of the day. keep an eye on crn for their daily pick. not necessarily free, but often worth knowing about. the android market isn't the apple one, but damn if its not getting there.

Is the D&D brand name really that important?

It's important enough that if WoTC gets its act together I believe it could easily supplant Paizo in #1 publisher status. It's not important enough, that if we believe 4th ed sold more than 3.5 and 3.5 sold more than 3.0, that it's going to generate the income Hasbro wants.

    D&D 5E (2014) Wow, 5e sure needs to have an OGL/attractive GSL

Not only is it #3 on my list here Appendix N: 5th Edition D&D Already? but I think that they are going to have to blow the DDI wide open as I note here Appendix N: DDI versus OGL Some companies did put out 4e Material. It didn't sell well enough to keep them in the game. Part of the reason...

Free Marketing Tip: Don't get chincy with the materials

Over at RPG.net, I noted that one of the edition free things that WotC can do to insure more 'smooth' is make sure that when they do things like boxed sets, that they are actual boxed sets. The few ones they made were pretty bad. And others on that site noted that those weren't the only issues...

Uniting All Players: Dragon and Dungeon magazines online viewing?

And let's be honest, WoTC has proven that if they WANT to do something, they do it. There were several legal issues TSR had and WoTC made them go away.

Uniting All Players: Dragon and Dungeon magazines online viewing?

I think that barricade was shattered with the CD release back in the day. I know Kenzer received some benefits from it.

Yer candidate for the monster on 5th MM1

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I want to see all the demon lords and devil princes that were in the 1st edition Monster Manual done up in whatever core Monster Manual book we see. WoTC is far too slow in getting these game stats out, often parcelling the mout, one at a time in the core MM...

Gaming Fans Absolutely Blow My Mind - A Rant

The cheerioes, they have been urinated in. There is a turd in the fruit punch bowl. I can understand why seeing the negativity of the fans can annoy people. Crying about other people crying is not the way to solve that problem. Putting out great material, having solid discussions about the...

    [January] What are you reading?

Enjoyed the Folding Knife so much I'm starting another book by the same author; the Hammer. Prelude was solid. Looking forward to it.
