    Discussing 4e Subsystems: POWERS!

Both roleplayer and hack n' slay styles of play benefit from power gaming as power gaming over comes obstacles easier, which leads to success for both play styles. Power gaming is just the ultimate form of character building/ gaming playing efficency and it is found in both groups. I think...

What are bad ideas in RPGs?

    4. The PHB being needed was required by WOTC. The idea was any book with the D20 logo was a rules add-on to the D&D PHB (and later the D20 modern book). Not having this feature would mean people could make d20 branded books and have no tie back to the core rulebooks but still reference them...

To all D&D fans - what are the top 3 specific changes 4e needs in your opinion

I am interested on the top 3 specific things you would change about 4e to make it ideal for you. If you love it already, what would make you love it more? If you hate it, what specific changes would make you love it? Everyone's opinion and suggestions matter. So let's keep this friendly :)

Could you please list the key things your looking for in D&D please.

Forked Thread: Did 4e go far enough or to far?

That helps me understand what Lanefan is saying, although I like to hear it from him. I still like specific examples though, what is 4e lacking that 3.x or previous editions of D&D had that causes this?

Forked Thread: Did 4e go far enough or to far?

If you don't mind, I would like you to be more specific about this point. Give some examples please how 4e is like this and what could be done different.

Forked Thread: Did 4e go far enough or to far?

Forked from: When did I stop being WotC's target audience? This post by WayneLigon got me wondering what everyone thinks about if 4e went far enough or not. What changes were to much? What changes should happen that didn't? How far could WOTC realistically have gone and still remain D&D?

Understanding the design quirks behind Monster Creation in 4e

In the 4e DMG on pg. 184-185 they gave us monster design rules for building our own creatures. In reviewing the rules, its seems all of the monsters are actually built with these rules with one exception: Where does the Damage by Levels get used on the monster manual's monsters? It seems the...

Feats that Should Be Skill Tricks

I would also add that skill tricks also often divert a non-combat resource into a combat resource, causing more min/maxing and a greater power divergence between equal level characters. I would like to double everything Shin Okada's points out too.

How do you bring 4.0 and 3.5 classes together?

I am working on a home brew rules set that I want to have the customization and multiclassing of 3.5 with the class powers and shared progression of 4.0. How would you go about doing this?

D&D 3.x How would you add 4.0 style class powers to a 3.5 character class?

I mean, how would you go about adding 4.0 attacks and utilities to the core classes in 3.5? For example, instead of a 3.5 fighter having a basic or full attack (plus the combat and feat given options), they would have powers options like cleave, reaping strike, tide of iron etc. Class related...

Ok, how would you add 4.0 class powers to a 3.5 character classs?

    Rate 4e Dragon Magazine

Although I like the content so far (much more than Paizo's) I give the overall 2 stars. Here is why: 1) I agree completely with Plane Sailing about the magazine releasing in bits and pieces. This is easier to read, but I see an article I like in the table of contents and it is not out yet. This...

Forked Thread: What is WOTC's Goal with the GSL?

Before I reply, I had one more thing to add to my last post: One of the elements that leaves a sour taste in my mouth regarding the GSL is the impending deadline for 3pp being able to release their products. The October go date has being known since May-June, but we still have no solid GSL and...

Forked Thread: What is WOTC's Goal with the GSL?

Wotc's motives are obviously something that is very speculative. We have really two options for how to judge it from the outside in (aside from corporate espionage ;) ) 1) Make an assumption about their position and goals, and then draw conclusions (i.e. are they trying to kill off the 3pp or...

Forked Thread: What is WOTC's Goal with the GSL?

This thread seems to be all over the place. I've read all of it, and it seems the discussion is not staying on the subject of what is WOTC's goal with the GSL. So instead of responding to one of the tagents in the thread, I am going to give me own two cents on the original question: I think the...

    Dumb Question About OGL Monsters

I think the part I bolded is the key part of this section of the license. It says names and descriptions, not anything regarding game mechanics. The confusion is that magical and supernatural effects referenced here is descriptions of them, not rules. If it was referring to rules there would be...

Updated status on the revised GSL

Corjay, You have half the people posting in this thread saying your coming off wrong, you have Scott telling you himself that your shooting the messenger and Clark is having to react to your attacks. Then when I try to point this out to you, you reply with the same venom in your post. Please...
