    What would you have done?

Ah. Now I think I understand. All those passages I have been reading about "no healing surges = no change" is referring to the natural 20 on a death save. Outside healing can still put you up to 1 hp it would seem. Thank you.

Act of evil? Or just taking out the trash?

    God, I certainly hope not!

    What would you have done?

Where does it say that? I read the passage once long ago, lost it, and since then have seen in SEVERAL places where it says, "if you don't have any healing surges available, your condition does not change."

Act of evil? Or just taking out the trash?

This is so eerily similar to the argument the paladin player made to me when I finally got around to talking to him (out of game) it's freaky!

Act of evil? Or just taking out the trash?

The whole reason I started this thread was because of the lack of alignment debates.

Act of evil? Or just taking out the trash?

How about all of the above? The paladin soon realizes that his loved ones are in real danger from the heretic's threat (perhaps he sees a known assassin following his wife--we have just one such reoccuring villain). As he rushes to save his family, he is picked up by the authorities of the...

Act of evil? Or just taking out the trash?

Yeah, it's not like they are going to survive without their parents anyways, right? I never understood those paladins and other goodly characters who would fight to save the baby kobolds from destruction at the hand of their party mates (after having slain all of the adults) and then leave them...

D&D 4E Does 4E still really hate shields?

Keep them away from the squishies, knock them into hazards and traps, move them into flanking positions with the nearby rogue, push them away then run without having to shift for a retreat. Lots and lots of uses.

    What would you have done?

    I've seen this...a LOT. :(

Act of evil? Or just taking out the trash?

The rules clearly state that a paladin's alinment MUST match that of his diety. Um, so where does that leave me? Am I even allowed to change his alignment? If I am allowed, what happens when I do? Does he HAVE to switch dieties afterwards? Do his abilitites change at all?

    What would you have done?

There ARE tons of options in 4E, it's just that people get so caught up on the new power system they don't even realize that there ARE other options. They get distracted by what's on their character sheet (or power cards) and end up having the same feelings you do, which is a shame since the...

Act of evil? Or just taking out the trash?

Um, they passed through a number of populated villages on the way back to the church. :o

Act of evil? Or just taking out the trash?

Actually, I think now would be a good time to mention exactly what his orders were. *Digs up GM notes* Church Superiors: "This heretic has been roaming the countryside for weeks, openly speaking out against our church, our faith, and our ideals. He has publicly and brutally put to death anyone...

Act of evil? Or just taking out the trash?

LOL! Yeah, it amazes me how many people have their characters fall into that ideology in their own games and then they turn right around and spout off about "horrible" scenarios such as this. :)

    Fighting Dragons

I think the thing that a lot of people here seem to be missing is that you are expected to win against encounters appropriate to your level. Haven't you guys noticed that the challenging fights in the modules are always 1-5 levels HIGHER than the party? A level 3 dragon for five 3rd-level...

Act of evil? Or just taking out the trash?

More like... Paladin: "I hack at the guys tendons to cripple him and then let the horse drag him." DM: "Over the course of the next day and a half the party must contend with his cries of agony during their travels. As you near your destination, his cries grow deathly quiet. Do you wish to do...

    What would you have done?

Good point. But please remember, the above diagram is static. In the actual game the rats were all over the place (and are probably under-represented above). Any openings we had were shut down because we didn't prepare actions in time or weren't valid options (in one instance, my gnome could...

    What would you have done?

It really, truly says that in the module? The monster manual oozes clearly indicate that the HPs are split between the halves.

Act of evil? Or just taking out the trash?

We have a paladin of Bahamut in our group who is absolutely ardent about battling evil without mercy. Now, I know paladins can no longer lose their powers in 4th Edition, but if they break their vows/code/whatever, their church might seek to punish them for their transgressions. Their alignment...

    What would you have done?

I must still be stuck in the v3.5 days. Knowing that would have made all the difference (a flanking rogue KILLS OOZES DEAD!). Good point. and I think the rats wer attacking through the corners at various points. THANK YOU! I always wondered if our GM deviated. Our GM isn't very forthcoming...
