    D&D 5E (2024) A Reintroduction to Greyhawk

I just published a blog post about Greyhawk's return as the default setting for D&D 2024, and I thought some of you might be interested. I dive a bit into Greyhawk's history and explore what this comeback might mean for our games. I've tried to cover both the exciting possibilities and...

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

This has been my experience too. Add in the 1set level feats and 2024 seems to run significantly slower than 2014, which was already pretty damn slow.

PETA Releases Three New Dungeons & Dragons Subclasses

One PETA shelter in Virginia euthanized 2500+ animals last year. So I'm curious to see what the "Oath of Animal LIberation" does exactly? I'm guessing they basically get sneak attack bonus on animals they've just liberated.

D&D 5E (2024) Should 2014 Half Elves and Half Orcs be added to the 2025 SRD?

Should they? Yes. Will they? No. WotC will wait for a moment they need a revenue boost and release an expansion book that reintroduce Half-Orcs and Half-Elves and then expect you to thank them for doing it.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

That number is the GenCon one, not total. It's likely people had already pre ordered.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

Got it. WotC introduces the topic, and you are confused why people are talking about it. Shocking I know.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

This wierd take that it's only been on sale for a week, when it's actually been on sale since the spring is exactly the kind of wierdness and fact twisting I'm addressing. I'm not sure what you're defending here. I think most peopel want DnD to be successful, and think it will be.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

Comments are all over the map here as is sentiment. I will always root for DnD, but don't particularly care about WotC or Hasbro. They are however, linked at the hip. A few items that continue to make this discussion strange and somewhat meaningless to me. DnDBeyond has 18 million users...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

But that doesn't really mean anything. Total sales is what matters and contrasting it against other core books. If you sell 10 of something in an hour, that may be the fastest you've ever sold it but if you only sell 10, I'm not sure that means anything. I have no doubt Tasha's sold well, but...

Embracing AI in TTRPGs - Enhancing, Not Replacing, Creativity

Thanks for bringing up these examples and questions. They really highlight the complexities we're facing with AI in our hobby. You're right that the AI-generated answers, while impressive, have accuracy issues. This is exactly why I argued in my blog post for more tailored, ethically-implemented...

Embracing AI in TTRPGs - Enhancing, Not Replacing, Creativity

I either didn't communicate this example well, you missunderstood it, or both. I wasn't suggesting AI create the map. I was suggesting an AI assistant picks a map from your or some collection you have access to and set it up in the VTT without the DM having to do all that. Additionally, it can...

Embracing AI in TTRPGs - Enhancing, Not Replacing, Creativity

That's likely and I probably share much of that frustration. If they want to discuss that, there are a million places they can go and do that. There also needs to be a space to discuss gaming outside that context. I think it's fair to hope to find that here.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

Does it seem wierd to anyone else that they're using a soure book as a benchmark for a core book?

RPG Evolution: The Right to Archive

I think published dnd books, adventures and such is what they are talking about for Ai, not dragon mag. Regardless though, in some cases it will be as you say. Still, I believe this is how they will try to do it.

RPG Evolution: The Right to Archive

It definitely parallels it if they are going to offered an AI search engine. However, there is an easy enough way around it. They will just have AI rewrite it all. WotC owns the IP itself. To be clear, I'm not for that, but i think that is what they will do

D&D 5E (2024) DMs what do you think of the new PHB?

I think it's cleaned up some elements of the game, made some things more consistent. The continued power creep is making the game worse IMO. It's also increasing complexity, which I don't think is good. I believe part of that is to align it better with their VTT to figure it out for you...

Embracing AI in TTRPGs - Enhancing, Not Replacing, Creativity

This, of course, is a fantastic comment. I was replying from a U.S. point of view. Which I should have added a caveat about and is an important part of the discussion. I will say that the EU and England are on a more strict trajectory right now than the U.S. but that is not the world. Asia has...

Embracing AI in TTRPGs - Enhancing, Not Replacing, Creativity

Thanks for your kind words. People are clearly stirred up about it and bringing their own read. As you say, AI is more a part of things than we realize and has been in earlier forms for some time. Brave of you as well to reply with this. There's a lot of legitimate concerns, but also a lot...

Embracing AI in TTRPGs - Enhancing, Not Replacing, Creativity

You're essentially asking if you can create a copyrightable work from an AI-generated source by transforming it sufficiently. The honest answer is: nobody knows for certain. Here's what we do know: AI-created works alone cannot be copyrighted. You can claim ownership over a work if you've...

Embracing AI in TTRPGs - Enhancing, Not Replacing, Creativity

I'm not sure where AI art was mentioned in any of this except by you. I think I agree though. I think it's foolish to make this your business plan. You're going to spend a lot of time in court rooms. In fact, the entire commercial prospect of AI is unproven. Right now, NVIDIA is the only one...
