D&D 5E (2014) What If Everyone Could Use Scrolls? (House rule)

That's a great idea too. It would have the added benefit of making languages feel* more important also. *I say "feel," because I wouldn't be heavy-handed with it. I wouldn't place scrolls in languages that aren't available to the party, just add a little bit of fun with giving certain...

D&D 5E (2014) What If Everyone Could Use Scrolls? (House rule)

In my mind, it prevents a bit of the cheese of juggling swords, shields, torches, and now scrolls, when trying to cast spells that have a casting time of "Bonus Action." I'm not married to the idea, it just makes it easier to wrap my head around.

D&D 5E (2014) What If Everyone Could Use Scrolls? (House rule)

(I know all character classes can use Protection scrolls; this thread is about spell scrolls.) In my last 5E game, spell scrolls were largely ignored. I'd like to make them more important and useful in my next campaign, and I think this might be a good way to go about it. What do you think...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I know it's not exactly what the thread was about, so I'm posting this here: Whatever their reasoning was, I still appreciate WotC's nod towards "backwards compatibility" in the new 2024 rules. My gaming group hasn't switched over to the new rules yet, and probably never will, but we still...

Dagnabbit, @RealAlHazred, I was trying to walk that one back before anyone quoted it!

....hmm, nope, I'm gonna walk this one back. It's Friday, it's game night, and I'm trying to stay in a good mood.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I think many of the people who blocked me over the years did so to escape the plethora of "5E Survivor" threads I was responsible for. I haven't done one of those in years, but alas... they'll never know.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

It wasn't intended to be advice for you in particular; I meant it more as general advice for the others reading this thread, or for anyone getting bummed out by what fans are saying on the Internet. (I'm also one of those fans I was talking about, so...) Another good one is Unwell, by Hartlife...

SAME. And I also backed their recent campaign sourcebook, too. (Also, the second Magnus Archives podcast is pretty excellent too. I still prefer the first one, so far...but early days and all that.)

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yep, I was talking about marketing. (I was also talking about myself, and the way I make decisions.) The fandom is a whole different beast, and I don't really have any good advice on how to handle it. Best I've got is "don't listen to the fans about anything," and I admit that's not very...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Both @Autumnal and @Thomas Shey have excellent points. Looking back over my most-recent RPG crowdfunding projects (Monte Cook's Old Gods of Appalachia and Magpie's Avatar Legends), I notice that there was very little mention of other games--favorable or unfavorable--in their product...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Ugh, I know right? Getting people to talk about their new TTRPG without also dunking on someone else's game is next to impossible. It always seems to go like this for me: Me: "Hey your new game looks cool! Tell me all about it!" Them: "Okay so you know how D&D is terrible and everybody...

    D&D General D&D memes thread discussion…

Well I'm definitely Chaotic, but whether I'm Good or Neutral depends on how other people at the table are playing. Like, if it's a really casual group and everyone is using pregen characters or whatever, I'm probably going to be Chaotic Good according to this chart. But if everyone has...
