WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

I once tried to get a tractor made in the last five years into gear. Could not do it. They are hideously complicated machines now.

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

That's a purely academic problem. A Big Mac meal costs $17 now nobody is eating fast food already.

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

Oh for sure. I agree with that. Nobody but cartoonishly evil people go out to screw anyone for no reason. But if there's a buck to be made, now the waters get muddier. I just want to live in a cabin in the Alps and bake bread. I'll sip coffee and hold my sourdough starter as the world burns.

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

The thread is literally about a corporation's use of AI. I don't consider it a hijack or really even off-topic. But I get it, you don't think it's a problem. That's cool.

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

You know, I hope you're right. Let me just say though, that I have yet to lose a bet when I've put my money on man's inhumanity to man.

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

AI can only generate outputs based on what's been fed into it and the parameters dictating those inputs' uses. Tell me, who dictates those inputs and parameters? There isn't going to be a Robocop moment where it overcomes its governing dictums and turns on its OCP masters. Though, I would in...

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

That's a good point. And if the people who make these decisions were making calls based on their own enlightened long term interest it would be an important safeguard. But, I think we can safely say that the last couple of once-in-a-generation economic crisis have borne that out to be false...

I hate to break this to whoever needs to hear it, but, uh, people who go to school for MBAs don't do it to be benevolent or out of a sense of altruism.

We both know they're going to be used to make the sequel movie to the one we're in now called "Exploit 2: The Exploitening" and they'll be used to sell you Wendy's in your sleep.

Shin Megami Tensei RPG Getting English Language Edition

Super hyped! Also stoked that this is based on Nocturne and not Persona. I know these are reprints of older Japanese RPGs, which is probably why. I like Persona games, but the last few have really been robbed of the SMT edge.

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

I'm not arguing that Zwei sucks because it's a retroclone. I'm just giving context on why they were received differently. To your point OSRIC came out in 2006, 5e in 2014. That's alot of time to develop a distinct scene, ethos and identity. Also, thanks to the OGL there isn't alot that D&D...

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

I'll jump in with a serious reply for a change. You have to remember the context of the release. When OSRIC came out, there was no way to get new copies of the game or to (they thought) legally publish adventures for it. By the time old school D&D became available again that ball had gained...

WotC WotC partners with Start Playing to connect players and DMs and form tables.

Or reasonable trepidation. The only reliable indicator of future behavior is past behavior. How's WotC doing by that metric?

Guys, if I defend the indefensible enough times the fortune 500 will love me back.

Yeah, well, people ruin everything, don't they?

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

It perhaps could. But you know, somehow, I don't think AI funded and controlled by the same forces of capital that have so far destroyed our planet and ruined just about everything else they touch will be the ones to do it.
