WotC WotC partners with Start Playing to connect players and DMs and form tables.

I wonder how much WoTC will get from this.
As others have stated, it's unlikely WotC is getting a cut of any paid games on StartPlaying. It's all marketing and promotion this time around.

But . . . with the Hasbro suits pushing WotC to monetize the brand even more so than they do now . . . it seems like a no-brainer for WotC to develop their own service similar to StartPlaying, and then start raking in those microtransactions per game! If I were in charge, that would be part of my strategy!

If I was WotC, I'd have done it years ago.

I can't tell, but I hope this is a joke.

Man I feel like no one here actually understood the monetize the brand thing, and instead just push whatever paranoid conspiracies they feel like.

Why go through the trouble of building your own service when you can simply get small fees for each transaction from StartPlaying? Or even better, just purchase StartPlaying.

You think no one here understands that 'monetize' means 'make more money from' and then extrapolated that from the actions of literally every other company that vomited that word into our faces over the last decade?

Heh, all the folks worrying about WotC charging per feat or spell got a bit silly . . . yeah.

But there are sensible ways to add microtransactions to D&D, without "ruining" the game. This would be one of them. Get a service like StartPlaying going that integrates directly with D&D Beyond and the new VTT, allow GM's to run games for free, but also allow them to charge per session and take a cut of that . . . .

Yep you didn’t understand and are just mindlessly repeating stuff you heard.

It was literally just them wanting to branch out the brand into other games, merch, and other media. It was nothing about nickel and diming people over everything in the Tabletop games
