Artificer Up (Playtest Version, not Final)

I really like this class. I would definitely play this over a wizard any day (never liked being frail). Finally an arcane caster who can take a punch! And the extra skills are not a bad touch either!

    All kobold PCs "physically challenged?"

I noticed that the monster entry for kobolds says they have darkvision, but the playable race entry says that they have "normal vision". Not even lowlight. So are all kobold PCs those who were cruelly banished because of their dark-blindness or is this a typo?

The best of feats, the worst of feats...

Skill Training WOULD be a good feat IF it trained you in 2 skills. You would never think you wasted a feat taking it then. It also wouldn't pale in comparison to the initiate feats (essentially only ever taken AFTER an initiate feat has already been taken as is).

    Flanking & Combat Advantage

Except the enemy is somehow BETTER able to defend himself against a rogue firing a crossbow at him...

    Flanking & Combat Advantage

Maybe it was a Pathfinder rule. It would have been a good one for 4e though. Oh well.

    Character Sheet Archive

Here, Morrus, is my contribution: http://www.badongo.com/file/10120115 I call it my BECM Style sheet because it was inspired by the one that came on the back of the Basic D&D rule book I learned to play with.

My BECM D&D Style Character Sheet

Good to note. I think that I will put a circle in each skill for trained or not, or have it say to put a "T" for trained in the box next to your bonus. I totally flubbed it on the feats. I think I will squeeze the Defenses over a bit and leave a column for them. I figured a blooded box is...

    Flanking & Combat Advantage

The other night I was playing in a game and I had a bit of a disagreement on how flanking worked in 4.0. I was under the impression that if an enemy is flanked he provides combat advantage to all. That seemed to make plenty of sense to me (I never liked the 3.x situation of: you are...

    Moving the Bad Guys Around

Picture it: Your fighter and cleric are both at less than 5 hp, standing next to a Burning Skeleton. On their intitiative, they will take 5 damage BEFORE they get to take their turn to do any healing, etc, and go down. You have the power to move that creature away from them so that they both...

    Wondering waht other DMs do...

With a background of playing a lot of 7th Sea, and as the author of a system that uses Minions as well, I have always found that it is "in genre" for the Heroes to know which foes are minions and which ones are the big bad guys. In a Three Musketeers Movie, A musketeer can take down multple...

My BECM D&D Style Character Sheet

The first D&D I ever played was from the Basic Set when it was rereleased in 1990 (the black boxed set with a red dragon on the cover). On the back of the rule book was a character sheet and I wanted to make one that captured that same simplicity. The only major thing I changed was getting rid...

Does damage awaken a sleep spell victim?

An easy compromise is if the person takes damage they get a bonus to the Save. I would make it significant, maybe a +3 bonus on their next save. That might still be worth a character spending a standard action on to get a bonus to wake someone up, but not as obnoxious to the caster as an...

Swordmages and half-orcs hit the streets!

yes, you teleport in front of them, parry the attack, and teleport back to your space.

Selling items : illogical rule ?

Its a good bet that on the street in front of the store where you would buy a magic +1 sword for full price, there is an npc fighters who will sell it to you for 3/5ths price. Or if you want to sell your sword, you can stand in front of the item shop and sell it for 3/5ths cost to an NPC figher...

Swordmages and half-orcs hit the streets!

Why would anyone playing a swordmage not be an Eladrin? A feat for +2 damage with swords and +2 int? Can we say "no-brainer?"

Can D&D be played without all the mini rules?

You (the OP) really, Really, REALLY want to play Castles and Crusades. No miniatures required, no powers that slide monsters 3 squares after doing damage, etc. Just D&D as it was intended to be-- a Medieval Fantasy ROLE-PLAYING game. Not much like 4th ed at all.

    GSL is up

Wow. Some of this stuff is completely asinine. You cannot list the stat block of a monster from the MM in a module you write. But you CAN do stat blocks for your own original monsters. So for a Cyclops Impaler, all you can say is that it is in the Monster Manual, and you can reference the...

Ranger & TWF vs. Archery Powers

Just do levels 1-10 as TWF then at level 11 "retrain" that you were an archery ranger all along and take the Battlefield Archer path. Win Win.

    Halflings - What's the Attraction?

Back on the Topic of Halflings, I have to say that I found a good workaround the "weapon shrinkage" problem-- Scimitars. I think they should be described as the halfling's racial weapon. They are the only d8 damage weapon a halfling can use w/o taking a feat in one hand, and they are a high...
