With 5e here, what will 4e be remembered for?

    Hahaha, stick around a bit.

D&D 5E (2014) Spells in Stat Blocks are Terrible

I still have a copy! By total coincidence, within arm's reach.

D&D 5E (2014) Spells in Stat Blocks are Terrible

I don't think this is a "ragequit." Besides, I like to be educated about new stuff so I can talk about it. I'm not canceling my PHB pre-order either; this just means I'm not looking forward to trying it out as much.

D&D 5E (2014) Spells in Stat Blocks are Terrible

I'm not really seeing how my 2nd point is at all incompatible with what you're saying here. :) For example, you could provide capsule descriptions of spells that are deemed likely to see in-combat use, and then put the rest into a list in a "this is the other stuff this dude can do" fashion...

D&D 5E (2014) Spells in Stat Blocks are Terrible

That's fair enough, but my counter-argument is that a set for brand new players who certainly won't have the spells memorized yet, and thus it's definitely worth the space. :) As for the MM - if they're spelled out better, than that's cool. Someone want to tweet mearls or something?

D&D 5E (2014) Spells in Stat Blocks are Terrible

You see, I don't think adding details to increase usability and reduce the need for memorization and overhead is a waste of space. :erm: If it comes down to "Gosh, this guy's stat block is now 2 double-sided pages because we added the details for all those spells he has!" then I would humbly...

D&D 5E (2014) Spells in Stat Blocks are Terrible

So I got my Starter Kit in the mail today, and after a quick review, flipped to the monsters. I noticed that out of 15-20 adversaries, 3 had lists of spells. Two were "NPCs" and the third was a monster - a Flameskull. Now, I'm going to try and focus on gameplay stuff, not the weird navel-gazing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manual and Races

I don't want to go back to using the Monster Manual as a player resource. :)

Digging For Lies - Ziggurat Rainbow Puzzle

I'm still confused. :) Sorry for the Necro... Is the above map correct with or without the change to green? I can see how the violet would work as well, if teamwork is required... And do all the walls start up? e: For example, I press the Blue rock. All blue bridges go up, blue walls STAY...

    Ziggurat of Apet Questions (spoilers)

Hey, folks, especially RangerWickett! So... How's the solution to the rainbow room work? It looks unsolvable to me - like the orange and green side bridges over the northern gaps should be swapped. (e: or, better, the orange and green stones.) As it stands, you can get to the green stone...

    D&D 5E (2014) The "tiefling" poll.

In my game, we don't even have classes and races. We just sit around in a dark basement and argue over minutiae like how Tieflings should look and under which circumstances you can take damage from a d20 roll. I call it "ENworld: the Blathering" :)

Different (99% sure) banned poster who likewise flew too close to the DoaM sun.

With 5e here, what will 4e be remembered for?

Game design? Hopefully if nothing else, its legacy will be that Fighters (and other weapon-using characters) can do awesome stuff, too.

    D&D 5E (2014) How to slow the 5E treadmill?

I will just note that I see little hope of avoiding bloat this time around. We have just as many or more axes of expansion than we've seen in a while, and I think it's naive to expect that WotC won't want some of that money. If not now, then soon enough. * Races * Subraces * Backgrounds *...

D&D 4E Is there a "Cliffs Notes" summary of the entire 4E experience?

No, I don't think most of that's controversial at all. 80% or more of it, I agree with. It was a bungled launch with terrible adventures, and it never recovered despite a huge increase in quality. You're right that the designers had no idea how the game they designed worked. They didn't hit...

D&D 4E Is there a "Cliffs Notes" summary of the entire 4E experience?

... yes? Absolutely? In your example, you have the normal parts of building a 21st level character, with class, build, theme, paragon path, and epic destiny. For 5e, you have race, subrace, class, subclass, background by 3rd level - Hill dwarf folk hero champion great weapon fighter - and maybe...

D&D 4E Is there a "Cliffs Notes" summary of the entire 4E experience?

Speaking for myself, 4e is when D&D finally fulfilled the promises it had been making to me since 1982. :) By the time it came out, I was well and truly done with all the iterations of 3.x, and had moved on to other systems - most notably WFRP2 and SWSE. I picked up Keep on the Shadowfell and...

D&D 5E (2014) My New Players Have Quit 5th Edition

Well, I'm not even talking about making sure they don't die. I'm more saying that one good hit from a surprise bugbear attack shouldn't do you in right away, you know? Character death is fine; at low levels, I think there should just be a bit more coaching and warning. A broader intermediate...
