    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I think that falls into the "don't be a jerk" playstyle. Something Daggerheart goes out of their way to argue against. I think it's bringing an attitude from outside of the game into it, and I'll have an issue with that regardless of what we're talking about.

D&D 5E (2024) Using general Feats when your ability is already 20

Having played Solasta (a 5E computer game that uses the rules very well) I've found that nothing breaks if you start with a 20. Just means you have nowhere to go at that point.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I'm really excited. I managed to grab a box from a FLGS, and now friends are discussing playing an in-person game. There's a bar in my area that is video game themed, and they have rooms you can reserve for games, so we may be able to play there. And have adult beverages. So excited! Reading...

    Draw Steel News

Tell me about it! I have backed some projects, so when I see an email from them I think "oh, cool..." but it's for something I looked at once. So now I browse in incognito mode until I want to back.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

Well my FLGS had a copy of it, so I picked it up. What will I do with it? Have to find a place to play, but I'd love to start a game with friends. We'll see. Hopefully the interest in it keeps staying strong.

    VTT Recommendations?

I have played and run Hero/Champions/Fantasy Hero on Foundry, and I thought it was decent rules implementation. The biggest thing was that you needed Hero Maker to create and import characters, but I have that. Harnmaster has a module but I haven't used it. Blood & Bone is a system I've heard of...

    VTT Recommendations?

This is a question that really depends on what you want to run. I am a Foundry user, but I've also used Fantasy Grounds and currently play a game on Roll20. If you are playing a game like D&D5 or Pathfinder 2, Foundry is a no-brainer. If you're playing a lesser known game ... it may not be. I...

D&D 5E (2014) Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass

That's really interesting. I think that WotC wants to move D&D in this direction, but didn't take the latest edition as the opportunity to shift the rules from "kick in the door" style play. It does sound interesting and you did a great write-up!

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

You had high level powers for all the classes. The Battle Master gets maneuvers that don't level up. You won't see any of the high level powers that the Warlord (or other classes that don't traditionally have spells). Not that I wouldn't wish for it, but I don't believe you will. I suppose WotC...

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

Unfortunately I don't think this will ever happen. I loved the 4E Warlord and played one all the way to an Epic campaign. The issue to me is that the Warlord was a leader and so could be a replacement for a cleric, and still be martial. That's a no-go. Further, the Warlord had powers in the...

Critical Role to Run Grimdark Daggerheart Miniseries

I'm watching the "session 0" for this campaign on YouTube and I think this is correct. Matt talked about how it is a "soulslike" game, but also that the group is going to be the only hope for bringing light back. It will be really interesting to see how this goes. I don't think a bleak grimdark...

D&D 5E (2014) Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass

This sounds like a wonderful product, but I can't think of a system I'd play but would want to play less for this game than 5E. It sounds like the binary skill system of D&D without even something like skill challenges. I'm definitely not trying to yuck anyone's yum, but playing this with a...

D&D and Star Wars Designer Rodney Thompson Turns His Hand To Cyberpunk in Neon City Outlaws

I had the chance to play Dusk City Outlaws last year with Rodney running it. I really had a great time. Rodney is a great GM, and the system was solid. If Neon City uses the same system, I think it will be excellent.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

If people haven't seen it, this is very slick. The character sheet is two columns, and they have a sheet you can cut in half and then place to the left and the right of the sheet. The add-on tells you about what the items on the character sheet mean. This is a very slick idea!

D&D Debuts Playtest for Psion Class

I know this is sort of off topic, but the rules are silent on this. In your campaign, if you want lore that the players can learn, that's how you run it. I wonder how that's different from not having the lore in the first place. The 5E/5.5E skill rules are ... sparsh, and I think that's a...

I’ve mentioned it before but I think some of the discussions we’re having right now would have fit in there decades ago! You will be missed.

Daggerheart Releases Two New Classes for Playtest

I've been following the development of the game since it started (which includes playing a six-session mini-campaign), and I have seen a lot of hate or disdain sent its way. I don't really understand it, other than people who strongly dislike Critical Role. Add in those people who don't like...

    Daggerheart has been Officially Released

I was patching for work and so had a lot of time to spend waiting and even that didn't handle this discussion. If you're interested in the games that are referenced as influences for Daggerheart, Knights of Last Call discusses most of them. Highly recommended, even if this one is waaaaaaay too...

D&D 5E (2014) Dragon Age lead says Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur prove publishers wrong as games can crush market trends is they’re “given time to cook”

I do get how more time cooking is needed by a lot of games that get rushed but there's no way that the new Dragon Age game was going to work as a Dragon Age game. I think it could have worked on it's own, but for me the series was a tactical RPG along the lines of Baldur's Gate. The game play...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

That is a really interesting point. I have a daughter who is neurodivergent, and it would be interesting to see information about this. I've spoken with her doctors but none of them really had any info to share. As she gets to the age where I was playing D&D, I'd love to get her started. I...
