D&D 5E (2014) Players, would you play in a game that only used the 5.1 SRD?

Depends on the quality of the GM. Average quality? I can find another game that is more relaxed. Amazing quality? I would play even if we were restricted to nothing but halfling fighters!

D&D General Demetrios1453 Plays the Gold Box Games

Sounds good. I just like to mention it because Gateway and Treasures often never get played, and they are fairly neat games.

D&D General Demetrios1453 Plays the Gold Box Games

Reminder: You can actually import from Pool > Gateway > Curse > Treasures > Secret > Darkness for a complete 6 game mega campaign. You will be overlevelled for the start of Gateway when you import in, but it evens out about halfway through the game and explains what you've been doing between...

D&D General Who “owns” a PC after the player stops using them?

A PC that transforms into an NPC continues to do similar things to what it used to do as a PC. Sometimes that involves fading into obscurity, while other times they become a worthy contact the PCs can call upon, and once in a while they end up as a villain or villain-adjacent. I would certainly...

    D&D 5E (2014) Somehow Vecna returned....

Vecna is Skeletor. He probably did, and it went hilariously sideways.

D&D General Classic Gold Box D&D CRPGs coming to Steam

Don't forget, you can make a grand campaign importing from Pool* > Gateway > Curse > Treasures > Secret > Darkness. You are overleveled for Gateway, but it's a lot of fun taking one party through all 6 games.

D&D General Times you misinterpreted a rule... But preferred the misinterpretation

I had people insisting they could aim the magic missile at eyeballs, into ears, up noses, etc.

D&D General Times you misinterpreted a rule... But preferred the misinterpretation

Truth or Dragon. You ask someone for a Truth, and if they don't want to answer then you give them a Dragon. I didn't realize for 20 years that you pick one or the other up front. And I still don't know why people play it that way.

    D&D 5E (2024) We’ll be merging the One D&D and D&D forums shortly

5.5 for me. I'll probably call it that even if something else gets traction. I won't mind whatever it ends up being called, though.

D&D 5E (2014) 5e Players: How often have you been allowed to use 3PP?

Then I will go ahead and use Very Frequently / Always as my official vote since the majority of Critical Role material is 3PP.

D&D 5E (2014) 5e Players: How often have you been allowed to use 3PP?

But it does feel like a very important distinction. Does your poll give you the data you are looking for if someone answers "Very frequently / always" when their overall policy is saying NO to any 3PP beyond a single exception? If yes, then okay. But I would personally rate groups that have...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e Players: How often have you been allowed to use 3PP?

BOTH Very frequently/always and Very rarely/never. I find Critical Role material is allowed at almost every table I've played at since they became popular. Outside of them, the policy is almost always "No" or "It hasn't been playtested enough to be trusted". It's practically a knee-jerk...

D&D 5E (2014) (House Rules) All weapons do the same damage... Who has made this work?

I have a homebrew fighting style I use: Versatile: Any weapon or improvised weapon you attack with can deal 1d8+1 damage. Dagger? Tavern chair? Mug of ale? Rock? Fireplace poker? 1d8+1.

I don't think many Pokémon like it either. If you see a trainer, just run!

    D&D 5E (2014) Dex barbarian

What does the rest of the party look like? Some things that might be unbalanced can become "okay" if nobody's toes are being stepped on. A lot of balance issues are relative to what the other party members are doing - if they are playing characters in the same space, or might feel overshadowed.

D&D 5E (2014) The Perils of Dump Stats

Is 9 a dump stat? I know it's technically a negative modifier, but I still think of it as "Fairly average."

D&D General D&D as a Game- On the Origin of Hit Points and Start of the Meat Debate

I will always remember Gygax telling me at GenCon to consider them "Points until you are Hit!" I'm sure that was just shorthand for a question he had been asked many, many times, but it always stuck with me.
