Is it harder to be a DM in a high-level campaign?

I changed Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion into a more luxurious version of Leomund's Secure Shelter. That way I don't have to deal with extradimensional troubles, PCs recovering easily in the thightest tunnels of a dungeon and vanishing from the earth at the drop of a hat.

[3.5] Enormous number of changes - some make me wonder why...

It depends on the DM and the campaigns. If magic arrows are rare - like in my campaigns, f.e. - then protection from arrows remains useful for a long time. If everyone and their brother that fight you with ranged weapons have either magic arrows or access to GMW then protection from arrows is...

    Circular Publishing: 3.5 and beyond

Since for me it suffices to use one thing out of a book to justify its purchase I don't have a problem with buying 3.5E books.

    Disappointed in 3.5 books

<smacks head> Now that is something I ask myself why I did not came up with it before. <opens house rule folder>

Is it harder to be a DM in a high-level campaign?

As I said, I did that with 2E. Teleport, loads of magic items, raise dead etc, even psionics. The preparation time was murder, and I once saw another DM get his adventure literally solved in 2 minutes by the psionict using three powers - not a fun thing.

Is it harder to be a DM in a high-level campaign?

Re: Teeth grinding If I am speaking about my experiences, yes, then it is all about me, since I can't speak about other gaming groups I don't know about. If I am the one preparing 2 adventures each week, creating NPCs, plots, hooks, opportunities etc, then yes, it is all about me. I can't...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] excellent monk/sorcerer option!

But you will be a half-ogre - oversized and ugly. I don't know any player in my groups who would play a half-ogre, no matter the stats.

How much use did you get from D&D 3.0e?

I was about 1 year into a weekly 2E campaign when we converted to 3.5 E (at level 5). The campaign, although gone to 2 sessions per month this spring, is still going on, now at level 12. Another 2E campaign I restarted as a weekly 3E campaign level 6 back in 2001, it reached level 14 and is...

    Ignore Lists. . .

    None here either.

How vivid is the violence in your game?

I usually only describe the finishing blow or a critical hit - normal hits are imho too abstract, especially in the case of arrows, to make a description other than "you nick him" realistic. (Really, can you see the level 10 fighter with a dozen arrows sticking out of him still fighting without...

Is it harder to be a DM in a high-level campaign?

I currently DM a weekly level 14 campaign (as well as a level 12 campaign), and I can only manage it (and still have fun) by limiting the options of the PCs. No teleport, no divinations by the PCs (although there are visions etc by NPCs and PCs alike), few (but powerful) magic items, no magic...

    I didn't get my 3.5 books today.

Mine were shipped today... I guess it will take 2 to 3 weeks to reach me.

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Eldritch knight abilities?

Yup, but the one from races of faerun. IIRC it has spell progression, not a separate spell list.

Do you or have you played Polyhedron minigames?

I voted "What's Polyhedron", since I don't buy Dungeon and that answer came closest.

[FR] Windwalker PrC - what the...?

Anything that offers full spellcasting progression and fighter BAB is broken imho.

    Looking for Reputation Systems

IIRC then there are reputation systems in Stwar Wars d20 and in the Wheel of Time d20 RPG. I am not sure about WoT though.

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Eldritch knight abilities?

I hated multclassing in 2E, especially fighter/wizards. I like the way it was solved in 3.0E. I'll ban the EK, should I convert to 3.5E, ASF or no ASF. Fighter BAB and 9/10 of wizard caster level progression is overpowered imho.

    D&D 3.x Statistical Analysis of 3.5 Power-Attack: UNDERpowered?

IMC we have a barbarian with a reach weapon, great cleave and combat reflexes. He power attacks often, and while it lowers his damage on full attacks, he does very well on charges, and when using AoOs, which he gets a ton of, and cleaving. In my game, where ACs are low, and most opponents are...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Fly?

Overland flight does not bother me much - I banned such travel spells, especially teleport long ago. The new fly may see some use now, with its shortened duration, but I am not sure - I hate fights that are basically dogfights between stealth-fighters on afterburner, with everyone and their...
