Verys Arkon's 5th Edition Character Booklet

That's great - I'm happily surprised anyone remembers that sheet! Hopefully this one serves you well.

Verys Arkon's 5th Edition Character Booklet

I have just uploaded Verys Arkon's 5th Edition Character Booklet to the downloads area. This landscape folded character booklet is designed to keep essential information on the first panel while keeping table to a minimum. It is redesigned from the runner-up submission to the character sheet...

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm so excited (and I just can't hide it)

My excitement is growing too. During the run up to 4e I put together the Pre-Release Rules Compendium with the help of the community (if anyone remembers it!), so a much different launch for me from last time. As fun as hunting for scraps was, having the Playtest was infinitely better. Though...

D&D 5E (2014) After first Next playtest session... a few questions.

I have another question. Hope you don't mind me jumping in. Can you use Whirlwind attack And two weapon fighting at the same time? A character surrounded by 4 enemies with 2 martial damage die and a second weapon could attack them all, with a -2 penalty to all attacks and both damage die spent?

I want to see one book

I'd still like the traditional 3 book model, but I would divide the books into tiers (heroic, paragon, epic), so in the end there are 9 books. I know I know - heresy to suggest 9 books, but by the time you get PHB 1-3, DMG 1-2, and MM 1-x, you are getting close anyway. The reason I want them...

Suggest Your "Rule of Three" Questions for Next Week (4/17)

Gamma World and the Adventure System board games were a place to explore mechanics outside of the main D&D line, something like Saga Edition was for 4e. What insights were gained that may translate into D&DN?

D&D 5E (2014) The Role of Dice in Next

I have no problem with dice, and I agree that it is a way to emulate character skill vs player skill. However, I want the mechanics that go along with the dice roll to be flexible and straight forward. If I have to look it up on a table, I don't want it. If I have to wait for a player to add...

    April 3rd, Rule of 3

I'll be very interested to see how they balance an "adventure" based game vs an encounter based game. The problem with adventure based games in earlier additions were things like: - only the last combat feels challenging because only then are you low on resources. The rest are trivial. - if...

    D&D 4E Random/Wandering monsters in 4E

I skip the random encounters too. Combat in 4e takes so long that if I'm going to invest that much time in it, it had better have significance. I wrote up a set of "Combat Challenge" house rules that make the filler combats go quickly, but still let players throw a few dice. Verys

    Focusing on the Positive

4E has, and still does, get my friends together around a table for fun, fellowship, and food. The rest is gravy. Verys

New Tool: Mobile Version of DDI Compendium

Thanks very much for putting this together. It will become my go-to reference tool for sure.

    D&D 4E WotC's 4E Setting approach - was it a mistake?

Agreed. I'm a busy DM and I use published settings to save time. What I really need are more setting-specific adventures. Sure I can usually modify a generic adventure for a generic setting like FR or PoL. For the more thematic settings, especially DS, generic adventures do the setting a...

    No Character Builder Update

The CB has been so useful that my entire group dreads making up characters by hand. In fact, we have been delaying the start of our new Dark Sun campaign because we wanted the CB to be ready. Technology has made us lazy, for sure.

If I wanted a run a mindless dungeon crawl, would D&D Miniatures game work?

I wonder if you could use the Companion Characters from DMG2 to make streamlined simplified PCs, but still use the regular 4e combat engine.

Power Cards - Do you use them?

For a heroic tier PC, I like to cut out the CB cards and put them in sleeves, but by the time we hit paragon, myself and most of my players have stopped cutting out the cards and just leave them in sheets. Table space is the number one limitation. The Character Builder rocks, IMO.

    RPG stores in Alberta

I'll agree the Sentry Box is Calgary's largest RPG store that I've found. I know they have a collection of older material, but I'm not sure about how much is used. I'm like a kid in a candy store there. They have a large collection of board games, fiction, and war games, as well as RPG books...

    D&D 4E Recreating that 4e Preview PDF?

Hi there, If you are thinking of the Pre-release Rules Compilation that I put together 'back-in-the-day' with the help of many EnWorlders, I used MSWord 2007 to assemble the file, and 'printed' it to Adobe Pro (though many free pdf printers will work fine). If you would like my template file...

    D&D 4e + new players = PURE WIN!!!

Sounds like a great game, and thanks for sharing. My 4e group has 2 people new-to-table top gaming, and two experienced players, and we are all having a lot of fun (including myself as DM). Even the one that despised what they had done to 'her cleric' admits it is a good time, and looks...

    2010: Is it Dragonlance? (hint)

Here are some things Chris Perkins has said about campaign settings here... Some interesting insights, and I think it helps us eliminate more than one old campaign setting.
