Which is... what, exactly? The 3.5 version gives you an idea of where to start. Can a given critter do things beyond that? Possibly; depends on the critter. The skill, however, gives you at least an idea of what the critter can do, without sitting for five minutes contemplating what, exactly, a...

Why the hell bother with having the gorramn stat block, then, if you're just going to ignore it and all the keywords you've written? Why the hell bother with rules text at all? What's the point, if everything is going to blatantly ignore it? Why the hell bother with having relatively...

I doubt that. Go read the intro to magic items in the PH again, then come back here. The power stat-block says that it is a daily power. It mentions nothing about spending a healing surge. The text mentions spending a healing surge to activate it. Healing surge-based magic items are not...

Text says that it requires a healing surge to use. Stat block says it's daily. So... which is it.

    Hang ups: No1 Character Classes

Unfortunately, 4e makes this kind of activity easier. Not sure how much easier, but what with every class having a relatively unique set of abilities, it makes class identification a lot easier. Though I'm not really sure it's a bad thing. In a class-based system, the classes are clearly part...

Is There Much Age Difference In Your RPGing Group?

For what I consider "my" group, 19 - 22, with the majority being 21. For the other group I game with, I am by far the youngest by around 16 years, while the rest of the group is within a few years of each other.

    WotC Spring 2009 Catalog

He is saying that the fact that they pointed out that they aren't random might be due to their possibly having considered to have them randomized at one point in the past. He isn't saying WotC said that they would be random. He's saying that it's an idea they may have thrown around, since...

Why there's crafting in WOW and not in D&D

I'm done with D&D. And I should really put that in my sig, so that I don't repeat myself like this... not saying it's your fault for not knowing, but this is the fifth or sixth time - at least - that I've said that. It certainly would save time. Well, given what you said, they seemed like...

Why there's crafting in WOW and not in D&D

Modularity is the key. And clearly we don't need to move past it. I mean, we're still riding horses around, right? This is a problem with the 3.5 skill system itself, not what it contained. I expect that your games never contain a rogue who goes ahead of the rest of the group to scout...

Forked Thread: Rate WotC as a company: 4e Complete?

I don't care to deal with jerks, so you're probably right. No? Poor wording, then, on your part. Reading comprehension. Get some. Did you read the whole of my post, or just flip out after the first line and decide to go off on me? I said "yes, you did," then proceeded to quote what Jack...

You have. "Retarded combinations"? How could you think that that wouldn't come across as offensive?

    The d2: Thoughts?

Not in the slightest. That, good sir, is absurd. I think the problem with the d7's I own is that the 6 and the 7 are on opposite faces, which gives the impression that it's unbalanced. If it were the 1 and the 7, I think it would appear to be a lot more fair, even though I'm fairly certain...

    The d2: Thoughts?

I own a d5 and a handful of d7s, but I think that that's fairly uncommon, even among gamers. Not only that, but their fairness is much more questionable. The big problem with odd-numbered dice is that they're hard to find, and the "take the next higher die and reroll the highest" (ie, using a...

    The d2: Thoughts?

I am curious about folks' opinions of the d2. Useful: You think that the d2 either does or could have some potential usefulness in a game system, whether it be to add granularity or for some other reason. Unuseful: You feel that the d2 either doesn't or couldn't have any particular impact on a...

Why there's crafting in WOW and not in D&D

Never said they'd be good at it, but they should be able to try. Have fun with your game, then. Not all crafting rules have to work like that, surprisingly enough.

Low-Magic 4E (Forked Thread: Just played my first 4E game)

Adding half your level to combat-related attributes (AC and attack rolls) only actually matters when fighting things not of your level. If you're fighting things of higher or lower level, though, it does have an impact, so you would have to find a way to compensate for that.
