    D&D 4E Fun to die in 4e?

Couldn't agree more. When you forget to check that *one* door, and it turns out to be the room with the six crossbow-weilding lizard men who jump you as you're retreating bloodied from the fight with vampiric half-wolverine pixies . . . good times. For me, the balance is if in retrospect the...

    D&D 4E Fun to die in 4e?

FUN TO DIE IN 4e Skip Carol, boy reporter Game World News has learned that the new edition of Dungeons & Dragons is aimed squarely at obliterating any fun that previous editions might have let slip through the cracks. "When I go around to conventions, and see people playing our game and...

The default campaign world - new article

No, I think you hit the nail on the head. But I don't know if indignation is the right response-- the "default setting" is for groups who don't particularly care that much about "Teh Wyrld" outside of kicking monsters and leveling up. For those groups, this assumption is perfect. Yes, there...

    D&D 4E Fun to die in 4e?

One of the phrases we hear over and over from 4e designers regarding choices is "______ isn't fun." It isn't fun to have to retire the whole party for the night because the single fight (that was fun) drained all of the party's healing. Save or die effects aren't fun. The list goes on. But...

    D&D 4E 4e Dungeon Design - New Article

Having run that encounter, I'd say you are spot on. :) With the redesign, I think it will be more clearly laid out what is an appropriate relative power level to run "horde" fights-- the sweet spot is tough enough to take some punishment and deal some damage, without overwhelming the PCs...

    Death of Simulation?

I think the idea is that for a simulationist, the D&D rules should be simulating *a* world -- not necessarily our own -- in which the conventions of the game simulate the world. D&D spellcasters use Vancian magic because that's the way the laws of magic work in that world. Limiting spell...

    WotC Blogs II

Dragons are kind of the 'flagship' monster in D&D, so they usually do get the lion's share of attention and peer review; I wouldn't worry about them being unique and cool. My guess is that there are fewer statblock entries, and they would look something like this: HP: htch 42, juv 75, yng...

Why Put magic Items in The PHB?

If creating magic items is a class ability in 4e (like it is in 3e) would you let your PCs create the items in the PHB?

    D&D 4E Your plans for 4e

<hypnotic stare> You feel compelled to find a job in Kansas City, and convince Peggy to do the same. When I snap my fingers you will awaken from this trance, and will not recall this command, but still be powerless to disobey. </hypnotic stare> *snap*

    D&D 4E Your plans for 4e

See, I think it's interesting how much blowback Wizards gets for being greedy when they are a publishing house whose buisiness model has to be that we all buy books on an ongoing basis (and for the most part we do). They can publish 4e, or the Continued Expanded Book of Elven Desert Stronghold...

    D&D 4E Your plans for 4e

Anyone here playtesting? Assuming most of you aren't, what are your plans to do with your current games in the final months before 4e? I'm finding that my enthusiasm for anything 3x declines in proportion to my excitement for 4e. I'd planned to finish the Savage Tide AP, but my guys and gals...

Do you want gnomes in the first phb?

I voted no, becuase I'd only be interested in gnomes as a PC class if they had a legitimate niche in the game millieu that wasn't ultimately comedic. Bleep Gleependoodle the Wacky Inventor* is cute in a couple scenes, but I don't want him in all of them. ----- *And I did use Fonkin Bastich...

    D&D 4E 4E combat more mobile?

Unfortunately, I don't think the 4e ruleset will be able to write difficult players out of the game. ;) That's your job.

    Warlock?

Oh, good call. That makes a lot of sense, but I wonder if (as you've guessed) the warlock won't see publication for another year and a half at the minimum, why would they be leaking art for it? It makes sense the concepting of all the classes would be done now, so maybe it was just too good...

    Warlock?

If the sorcerer is an arcane class, it'll be included in the PHB 1 -- FWIU, they are dividing the PHB releases by power source. I'm still thinking Warlock might be a divine power source class.

    Warlock?

Who you rollin' with? Of course I do. ;) In the little flash drives that Wizards was handing out, one of the 4e concept drawings was labled "Dwarf Warlock." And it's a nice illustration, too: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=204241 Yeah, it certainly looks like 4e spellcasters took...

    Warlock?

Yes, that's perfect, thanks! So the warlock is kind of the sorcerer in concept, but with the good fluff left in (extraplanar voices in the head). Wonder which race will have this as a linked class? ;) Interestingly enough, the 3e warlock mechanic sounds pretty close to general spellcasting...

    Warlock?

Perhaps I've mis-understood, but that wasn't my understanding at the seminar. My understanding was that while the roles will be defined more clearly, classes won't be limited to one role. ----- Warlock breakdown anyone?
