AD&D 2E Gestalt, the Half Elf, 2E, and You.

Gestalt, broken? Pshaw. Triple classing it... hmm. Good question. A little, I think.

The funny thing about paladins of wee jas...

My point, Psion, is that it's a little disingenuous to make a broad claim, and then defend it with 'well, that's just how my campaign operates.' Either it's a campaign feature, in which case it's a bit absurd to broadly claim other folks are doing it wrong, or you are attacking the principle...

    Odd Peeves [2002 Thread]

I had a bard/barbarian orc character (not half-orc...) in a game, once. Was working toward warsinger... I often think bards have a lot of flexibility of interpretation that people don't adequately grasp. A bard can be a shining leader (I'm playing a paladin-bard currently), or a fop, or a...

The funny thing about paladins of wee jas...

I'd point out, re: confusion over Psion's point, that it started with Psion's statement that 'so many stupid rules.' IE: He was dismissive of 'paladin of anything, cleric of concepts.' The 'well, this is how I run things in my campaign' only cropped up as a defense afters.

Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

I find that in comparisons between editions, the 'rule complexity' issue often confuses things. 3.x has more rules than earlier editions (though it can be argued how much). Thing is, liking a certain amount of rules doesn't necessarily mean that a given edition is 'best' for you. Personally, I...

Exotic Weapons don't serve much of a purpose

One nice thing about a double sword, assuming you have good stats and feats to burn, is that not only do you have the two weapon benefits (same weapon in each hand for weapon feats, considered light off-hand), but you can also use power attack, and some cool abilities from Exotic Weapon Master...

Is it really so important that everything is equal?

Balance is an illusion -- a necessary illusion.

    [Iron Heroes] Yet another Arcanist

Provided here Opinions? It needs a few more lores, and a bunch of examples, but what do people think so far?

Call of Cthulhu- which version should I buy?

No ship. But it's nice to have it when you want, or use it as a launching point. And, after using BRP for 10+ years, I constantly felt it didn't provide a strong foundation for what I wanted. Oh, and John Fiala... hey there! Will Timmins. ;)

Call of Cthulhu- which version should I buy?

Aaron got it. I like having success levels and difficulty numbers; it gives me more traction to decide how good/bad things are, and how to reflect it in the action. BRP... gives you no real firm footing in that respect; there is a contested table, but it's a bit impractical for constant rolling.

    [Iron Heroes] Conjuration Fix

Unearthed Arcana. Basically, it turns spellcasting into a skill check, with a system for determining the DC and number of rolls. It's an extended ritual taking at least an hour. But the spells are very very very specific. The sample spells include contact planar ally (I think), which lets you...

Mutants and Masterminds - limited copies available!

Does it seem to support non-Super play any better/worse? I love M&M, but don't like supers. So. ;)

    [Iron Heroes] Conjuration Fix

I've been debating doing magic entirely as some kind of expanded feat mastery thing... I think it'd be cool. Another option I plan on using is Incantations, from UA. That might work for demon summoning, particularly as a very specific sort of thing.

Call of Cthulhu- which version should I buy?

My specific likes and dislikes: Percentile system in BRP is difficult to use with any sense of success levels or difficulty levels. D20, on the other hand, has much clearer benchmarks. Ability scores in BRP are somewhat... bizarre. Some are valuable, some aren't, and the way they are generated...

    Iron Heroes...what's your opinion?

Of course, but I can easily imagine someone for whom artic-born is as important as highborn. Or whatnot. Though I will grant 'artic and jungle born' doesn't make sense. I think I'll go with 'GM call.'

    Iron Heroes...what's your opinion?

Well, personally, I would argue about just how universal that is. But it's not the only example... consider 'arctic born.' Someone can't be a religiously ordained character from the arctic/jungle/wherever? Or Highborn, or...

    Iron Heroes...what's your opinion?

Oh, question... I found it a little odd that highborn and religious background (forget the name) were background traits; that is, you can't have both a noble title and a religious title. Did that strike anyone as odd?

    Iron Heroes Unarmed Combat

Well, in vanilla D&D, I don't think you can, actually. You can with natural weapons. The monk version of unarmed strike allows you to strike even if your hands are occupied, but there's no specific 'off-hand.' Things get muddied in faq/errata... I think someone said certain faqs suggest a monk...

    Iron Heroes Unarmed Combat

What about allowing unarmed strike as an off-hand weapon? That way you can essentially grab flurry as the Two Weapon fighting tree.

    Iron Heroes...what's your opinion?

I am not quite finished reading IH, but I love it. It follows some lines I was thinking about with lower magic fantasy. Oddly, the one thing I don't like... while I think the classes are really neat, I find them... dense. Maybe I'm strange, but I'd almost rather have something simpler. Though...
