    November's SAGE ADVICE Is Here!

I am not going to get involved, beyond saying that Flamestrike is correct, for the reasons he has stated. I could say them again, but I don't see the point.

    D&D 5E (2014) Vicious Mockery utility

Well, its 'just' a cantrip, so needs to be judged as such. All cantrips are 'all or nothing', so that is normal. So is it better to do 1D10 damage, or do 1D4 and give disadvantage? You can do a similar comparison with the other cantrips. There are plenty of enemies where I would prefer to...

DM Encounter Flexibility for Published Adventures

IMO AL gets a bad rap for being 'restrictive'. Yes, there are a few (few!) hard limits, but they actually leave a *lot* of leeway for DMs to adjust the adventure to better match the PCs and players. Especially with Encounters/Hard cover adventures. Don't give out more magic/gold than allowed...

    D&D 5E (2014) Two Quick Questions

Away from book, but 95% sure that is not correct. IIRC you can cast it on an item, or a willing target, and have the effect move with the item/person. You either can't cast it on a bad guy, or they get a save.... think the former.

    The players know too much

AL actually allows a lot of DM modifications. There are some hard limits, but otherwise you can pretty dramatically change up the module. Re-arrange rooms, swap around where creatures are, increase/decrease numbers, etc.

    D&D 5E (2014) Bardic Inspiration--How Do You Describe It in-Game?

The 6 second round just doesn't make sense.... so don't sweat it. Do something fun to inspire folks and don't worry if it takes 2 seconds or 12 seconds, or whatever...

    November's SAGE ADVICE Is Here!

One option, that people tend to overlook, is giving advantage and/or disadvantage on the Dexterity(initiative) checks.... if you really think that assassin did a great job getting the drop on the target...give him advantage. If you think the target is distracted, or whatever, give him...

D&D 5E (2014) Question about shield master feat: Do I need to hit first?

I assume they are doing this from horseback?

D&D 5E (2014) Question about shield master feat: Do I need to hit first?

Interesting, I feel the opposite. It seems like an arbitrary ruling (IOW, 'gamey') to say you can Strike-Shove or even Strike-Shove-Strike, but you can't Shove-Strike.

D&D 5E (2014) Arcane Rules- What is your favorite "hidden" rule in 5e?

This isn't quite right. If you cast a bonus action spell (regardless if cantrip or not) any other spells that turn must be cantrips. Even if Action Surge. Misty step - firebolt - firebolt is legal Quickened firebolt - firebolt - magic missile is not legal.

Is there a way to get a Kelemvor Cert?

While I am against fake certs, and not happy about buy/sell certs.... I really can't get that worked up about it. It doesn't really impact the game much, and even that small impact only affects me for the one game I play with that guy. And since our LGS has pretty consistent people...it could...

Factionless Characters: When sometimes your concept dosnt link up with a Faction.

I *strongly* disagree. There is nothing about being in a faction, or not being in a faction, that will have such an effect on the game. In fact, it seems a bit absurd that *every* adventurer just happens to belong to a secret society..... There are a lot of character concepts that don't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Some recent tweets.

No... I would have bet money it worked with all dice. I still think the wording supports that.

Here's That Hi-Res Sword Coast Map

Thank you Smiteworks. These are meant as a 'reward' for folks donating. Just because they didn't lock it down behind a paywall doesn't change the intent. No one, not WotC, not me, are policing people. And of course they know more people will download than donated....but that isn't the point...

Guiding Adventurers in Out of the Abyss

The other two issues 1) Some of the NPC want to go to Gracklstugh....none of them want to go to M-D 2) DO they have someone that can guide them to M-D?

So, flight... (Let the headaches begin...)

I disagree, there is no 'interpretation' that forces a player to land every turn. That is a DM creating a new rule, not interpreting an existing grey area. Yes a DM is the final 'arbiter', but that presumes there is a judgement call to make. the flying rules leave no such room. True, there is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Opinions on Bladesinger

Its for AL, so high stats are not a problem. (Nor am I concerned about any builds past level 10-12...) The consensus is about what I thought when I looked/glanced at it.... that it looks more powerful at first glance than it actually is.

    D&D 5E (2014) Opinions on Bladesinger

I don't have SCAG yet, and one of my players is planning on converting his level 4 PC into a Bladesinger. Any opinions? How powerful is this? Anything I need to be aware of? The cantrips seem powerful, but not all *that* powerful... but their 'power up' ability seems pretty boss. (The one...

    D&D 5E (2014) One-Stop Stat Blocks for D&D 5th Edition

Hey Frylock, very cool, and thanks for doing all of that work. (And it does seem like a lot.) One minor and easy suggestion.... perhaps add a version number to the first or second page. That way folks will know if they have the latest version. Thanks again.
