D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

of course they did not take the survey, which is one part of why the emphasis on backwards compatibility is overrepresented in the polls. I don’t think a slightly less compatible 2024 would have posed a problem in getting existing players onto it. Adventures remain compatible, we are strictly...

do you? A rough understanding of them will tell you that the two are very different

D&D 5E (2014) According to the Hasbro Q1 earning call D&D sales are up substantially.

that’s fine, I am not certain of my assumptions. Given that Wizards Digital did remain flat I assume the digital part would have to be outside WotC however. I doubt MtG grew by 45% overall with print growing 90% and digital remaining flat… Maybe DDB falls under the WotC + Digital umbrella but...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

which means what, there are no fights the way D&D has them, they are more like skill challenges or something? You can come up with stat blocks on the fly? You do not need traps or a little bit of a story behind the goblin cave to make it more than a sequence of random combat encounters (or...

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

the problem is more that the surveys do not produce very meaningful results for WotC to go by. If I give it a mediocre rating because I like the direction but think the implementation needs work and WotC does instead throw it out because it got a mediocre rating, then I did not get my message...

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

I doubt it. I am not saying make a 6e that is as different as 4e was, I am saying they could have made a few more changes to the classes / subclasses that require a bit more adjustment for existing subclasses to work with them. Well, they did what they did, too late to change direction now

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

I think it is generally overrepresented, there are constantly new players coming in who could not care less, in 2 years compatibility will not mean much

and you are telling me you could not have 10 of these as this level of detail for your first D&D sandbox session for the players to choose from? Why does D&D need this but Ironsworn gets away with you making stuff up on the fly and does not turn into Serious question, I want to understand...

yes, if you can do that for later quests, you can do it for the first ones too you overcomplicate things, how did you know these things in your sandbox with one page of prep? Just because you have a town and its surroundings prepared does not mean that you (the DM in this case) do not know...

not really, the report said 'Monopoly Go! contributed $39M of revenue in the quarter.' which is less than D&D did, let alone MtG

Looking forward to it, hopefully with an explanation hoe to get there. The more I look at their quarterly report, the less sense it makes to me We have this for WotC and the below for WotC + Digital Gaming Given that the category in the second image is is 'WotC and Digital Gaming', I would...

and who is using those 3pp options? the WotC customers, at least a part of them, and probably the part that is the most ‘hardcore’ and buys a lot of stuff, including from WotC. If all 3pp player options were incompatible / hard to adjust, you give your hardcore base a reason to ignore 2024...

Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

probably, but not having an OGL certainly did not do 4e any favors. Paizo already did not like 4e as a game, between that and many players not moving to 4e either, a Paizo 3x always was a good option. That WotC made it impossible for them to switch their business to 4e was the icing on the cake...

or you have a starting town prepped, the players get familiar with it / it’s NPCs, they pick up some rumors and decide on their first quest, and then the first session is over and you have time to prepare. Worst case you already have them travel to the site and have some encounters along the...
