My friend wants his Archer build improved...

Manyshot as the hasted action? Only in 3.0. In 3.5 it's different.

My friend wants his Archer build improved...

The MiC specifically lets you upgrade named/unique weapons, because not being able to upgrade them is just plain stupid. Go to town with that energy bow. The Elvencraft modification from Races of the Wild lets you use a shortbow as a club, or a longbow as a quarterstaff. It's 300gp so it...

on the throne you find!...a kobold.

Sorry for slightly off topic, but the first thing I thought of when I read the title was "Oh... Let's leave him to finish his business." And then I thought that a less polite party might go "Perfect opportunity! Kill him while his pants are down!"

New to D&D, playing Favored Soul, suggestions welcome

Number 1 rule of playing a caster: You'd better get some awesome abilities if you're giving up caster levels. The abilities gained from SBoH do not make up for the lost casting at all. An extra 1d6 or 2d6 damage for your weapon a limited number of times per day is rather crappy compared to the...

New to D&D, playing Favored Soul, suggestions welcome

Depending on who you worship or whether you can refluff it, Ordained Champion is probably closer to Duskblade in theme for a divine caster than anything else thanks to its 3rd level ability Channel Spell. If you're going to prestige I recommend trying for Sacred Exorcist, which will get you...

    Help a Handless Rogue

You mean persistent metamagic, right? That's a +6, which won't usually work with any wand. Making a custom item of it could work, but the cost might be similar enough to the Gloves of Man that you might as well use the gloves.

Luckblade and Luck feats - simplify?

Remember that as per the MiC rules the character will still be able to upgrade the luckblade. It is a weapon after all, you might as well put it to use as such.

Help with a crossbow build tips

It's a theoretical build, but what kind of tricks are you allowing with this? There's the Aptitude weapon enhancement from Tome of Battle which will allow you to take one weapon-specific feat's effects and apply them to another weapon. The usual trick with this for archers is taking Hand...

Warlocks are too anime and overpowered

For those of you about to take Dandu seriously on this one, DON'T! Have a laugh at the notion of people thinking warlocks are too anime and overpowered, because they are clearly not so.

    Sense Motive vs Bluff

What I get out of this with a quick read is the original question was how should a DM word the result of the die roll so that it's accurate to the rules and tells the player exactly what the rules intend. The answer is: against an opponent actually lying or being misleading, the rules screw it...

Help with a crossbow build tips

Wyvern, it says right in the proficiencies that rogues are proficient with hand crossbows. :p If Dragon material is available, I'd say take Dead Eye. And of course Crossbow Sniper. There's also a fighter variant in Dragon 310 called Targetteer, which gets dex to damage and an improved...

    Beguiler Build and group despair.

Keep in mind Obtain Familiar requires being a third level arcane caster, so you might have problems lining up feats and such. Changelings are a great race to play and if the player is creative there will be lots of fun opportunities. You might find the insight in The Beguiler's Handbook to be...

    Nightmare Spinner/Escalation Mage

I'd probably go Nightmare Spinner because Nightmare Phantasm is a useful debuff, and later on Spirit Chill could be useful to help knock opponents out faster. Quick question though: Have you considered Dread Witch from Heroes of Horror? Few things beat it in the fear department because at 4th...

    Level Adjustment Alternative

I know it's splitting hairs, but according to Wikipedia and its cited source at Nature.com, pandas are indeed bears. They're still omnivores since they'll eat meat, fish, and eggs if need be, so they would qualify for lycanthrope, but it's probably safe to use the normal werebear stats.

    Level Adjustment Alternative

Speaking of critters that matter, the DMG mentions using the Elite array if one wants to up the ante a bit since all monsters are assumed to have 10's or 11's for base abilities.

    Jumping Limits

Depending on circumstances it was fairly easy to ignore the height restriction in 3.0 anyway. Thri-Kreen are one example. The Halberd of Vaulting from the A&EG is another. A Thri-Kreen with a Halberd of Vaulting is a rather amusing sight thanks to +60 jump, or +64 if it gets a running start...

    Level Adjustment Alternative

Every creature started somewhere. That ogre wasn't suddenly born with four Giant hit dice. Why should the player not be able to play a creature because its full "power" is attained later than the level the rest of the party is at? Are you basing the definition of the creature on the stat...

    Level Adjustment Alternative

Is this one of his pet projects that he just informed people of, or did it take any hold in 3.5? Turning LA into HD is definitely needed. Oslecamo over on the MinMax boards has hundreds of monsters updated this way, although his revisions aren't quite in line with the actual creatures. Part...

Boots of Swiftness perhaps? or a toned down version that wasn't epic?

    Magic Items available for purchace?

That depends entirely on whether and how much the DM is using the random loot distribution system. Nowhere does the book say the system absolutely must be used. Heck, there can and will be times where loot is entirely arbitrary, as the DM wishes and will hopefully make sense. In one of the...
