D&D General Alternatives to lich or vampire?

So, IMC, I want to make a noble lord undead. As in, part of his backstory involves him wanting to become undead, and he pays a sum of money, and then does that. What are my options? Lich, it seems, is limited to just arcane casters and also WAY too high of a CR to be useful. Vampire could...

D&D General Who coined the phrase "murder hobo"

Done. I re-installed my Dragon magazine CD archive, and did a search for "hobo", which yielded only one occurrence - issue 186, pg. 98, which referenced a "hobo" occupation for Call of Cthulhu.

D&D General Who coined the phrase "murder hobo"

It seems more than likely that someone on this site might have done it. Any amateur etymologists dug into this one? We should find them, and give them credit where it's due.

Kulan: Knightfall's Crisis in Bluffside Game [OOC]

Warms my heart to see people playing in Bluffside. (BTW, the original idea for the city itself was mine, borne out of a failed attempt at writing a module). I was also one of the major contributing writers to it.

D&D General Recommend some good PDFs/products to me

I liked Creature Codex a lot more than Tome of Beasts, though I do own both. I wasn't aware of that series, but I do like that kind of stuff. I don't know how much of them I would ever use, but I guess that never stopped me from buying a product before. :)

D&D General Recommend some good PDFs/products to me

Will definitely check it out. And no, I hadn't heard of it, because DriveThruRPG's search features actually suck. lol Thanks for the link.

D&D General Recommend some good PDFs/products to me

That actually looks really good. There will be a point in my campaign where the party might end up in some strange towns. Could definitely use these to fill in those gaps. Thanks!

Map #1: Elphand Lands from the Wilderlands of High Fantasy.

D&D General Recommend some good PDFs/products to me

I'm in the market for some good PDFs or products. But, what I'm looking for seems a bit elusive. I want... ideas. I want side quests. I want locations. What I don't want: Crunch (don't need it; won't use it), campaign settings (already have one I like), a campaign (already built my own, TYVM)...

    AD&D 1E What makes a D&D game have a 1E feel?

As much as I generally like the stuff Frog God (and previously, S&S Studios) put out, I've never really understood the selling point of "1st edition feel", since I "feel" like 1st edition was pretty terrible for many, many reasons. 2nd edition was even worse. Racial level limits Lack of...

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Animated Series: Requiem The Final Episode

Someone want to clue me in on who the girl was that Presto went to? Is that from a prior episode? Forgive me - it's been decades since I've watched that series.

Meet the Daughter of Hideous Laughter

Am I wrong in thinking that Tasha was an actual person who played said character, and inspired Gygax with that spell? I'm certain I remember reading that somewhere.

GMing: What Keeps Long Running Campaigns Exciting?

I agree with Toucanbuzz that long-term success hinges on the players. To that extent, real life seems to be the primary reason why a campaign stops IME. I also really liked the comment about dragging out the XP and making leveling up REALLY slow. That's a very interesting idea, but it would...

D&D General Tell me about your campaign

But be brief about it! If you're running a published campaign, that's fine, too. I'll start: The players collect the 7 pieces of the "Rod of Law" which ultimately shows them that ultimate law isn't any better than ultimate chaos.

Pathfinder 1E Challenge: Help me make a mountain climb interesting for my epic level players

As the party descends (using whatever means they decide), they notice a pair of boulders spinning around one another. That's curious enough to warrant a closer look. There, they find a Galeb Guhr (a paltry CR 6 creature), and he's as old as the mountain - and hella lonely. Noticing the PCs...

D&D General Good side quest ideas

I'm searching for good side quest ideas. If I google this topic, I can find a myriad of side quest ideas, but most of them explore the same old boring tropes, and are really quite simplistic and overdone. I'm looking for actual good ideas for side quests. For example, IMC, the party has the...

D&D General D&D art, which artists best established each edition or setting?

I agree with Enrico's list. I'd also add that the art for 4th edition really sucked.

    D&D 5E (2014) Frustrated with 5E magic items

If I did something like this, it would be my luck that I'd roll a Portable Hole, or something else game-breaking like that. I'm much happier actually deciding before-hand what he has, so I have control over what the players have access to. Because I learned a long time ago that certain "benign"...
