D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

This sounds like a cool game. I like what you did with the skill challenges. Questions from a curious mind: how much prep do you do for your games, and how much of the world have you written down?

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

That's a great way to do it. I've been trying something like that myself, keeping a vague over-arcing plot, then filling in the details as necessary to take into account PC actions, potential twists and the like. I guess it must be hard sometimes to pick out all those loose threads that are...

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

I do love this campaign :) Question for you Sagrio: how much of this do you prep before hand and how much of it is ablibbed as you go along? I get the impression that you have copious notes, events planned out, then make the rest up as you go with the flow of the party's adventures; but really...

    How would you build it?

You could go for a fighter with a multiclass into cleric, or avenger maybe? Gives you that durability you want plus a divine kick too.

    D&D 4E D&D Minion, app for managing 4E encounters

That is a nifty little tool, I'll test it out in next week's game :) Thanks.

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

I agree. This has been my favourite story-hour from when I first read the very first session and spent weeks catching up. I feel like I know the characters and setting better than my own games :) Thanks for sharing these tales with us all, Sagiro, they're fun to read, interesting, and...

    Bottom-up world design – I am a believer!

That pretty much sums up my approach to my current campaign. Started out with a brief sketch, put some detail into the port town and a rough map, then filled it out and built upon it as the games progressed.

How were you introduced to RPGs?

I was introduced to D&D 1st Edition by my dad, way back when I was a mere 8 years old and already engrossed in reading fantasy books. It was a family game, uncles and my aunt mostly, and lasted for over a decade before real-life broke us up; then I carried the torch and introduced brothers and...

web 2.0 in your rpg games

I run a 4th edition game on-line using Maptools (which, as Prism says, is very good) and Teamspeek, which works almost as well as my face-to-face game does; in fact, in some ways it works better as there are less distractions. I have used Google Groups and Google Sites (see sig) for campaign...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

I love the idea of using player-described junk as attacking minions. Very cool. And I look forward to hearing about Mudtunnel; sounds cool too. Hell, all of this campaign sounds cool! Plenty of ideas here, lots of good insight to the game, all very useful. Thanks for all of you taking the time...

The Land of Black Glass: story hour: part 1

Snakes & Ruins In the middle of the night, as Kairee stood watch over her sleeping companions, prodding the dying fire and attempting to coax it back to life, something moved in the shadows beyond the trees. Looking up with her keen eyes she spotted a giant snake, a viper, slithering towards...

The Land of Black Glass: story hour: part 1

...but since they all needed the money, they introduced themselves and decided to go and pick some flowers together. After all, what could possibly go wrong? The first to introduce himself was Sherman, a cleric of the war god Cahan. A loud man, wasted no time to letting everyone know who his...

The Land of Black Glass: story hour: part 1

First Adventure: Flowers for Reginald It all started in the hall of the Wayfinders Guild; a vast room dominated by a map carved into one wall, showing the new world, the places explored and discovered, with numerous scrawled comments enscribed, such as "Gnolls Here!" or "Dragon!". On the...

The Land of Black Glass: story hour: part 1

Hello all :) Though it about time I tried my hand at a story hour, and since I have recently started a new campaign (3.5 for this one) what better time to try. Firstly, the player characters (all first level); the "speech" bits are what the players themselves sent me when we were creating...
