D&D Icons of the Realms Starter Set

3 out of 5 rating for D&D Icons of the Realms Starter Set These figures are not very impressive, but a good starter set of prepainted character minis. And yet another Drizzt. I know he's popular and all, but if you've been buying D&D plastic miniatures you probably have a couple of versions already.

    D&D 5th Edition Starter Set

5 out of 5 rating for D&D 5th Edition Starter Set This is a very nice starter set.But what really makes it good is the adventure. Well worth it even if you do not want it as a starter. The pregens are tied nicely to the scenario, but you can easily run it with other characters as well.

D&D 5E (2014) Two (?) Questions about Elves and Classes

Cool cosmology you got there. It sounds to me like elves in your campaign dream, and dream well. No reason why they should not, just because they don't in other campaigns. Subclasses is the 5e way to do the equivalent of feat trees. Feats are few and far between, so that makes trees tricky...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hit Question

You could also skip the extra damage, but describe something bad that causes impairment. An arrow to the knee can cramp anybody's style, movement, and adventuring career. In other words; a crit is a chance to describe some suitable incident that happens. The opponents feet are swept from under...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeonscape Lives!

OGl does not mean that everything is free to use for everyone. I can see the basic rules being released as OGL content, but I don't think we'll see a 5e SRD.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeonscape Lives!

Letting more or less anybody make character generators would be excellent indeed.

You made me go and search for it, and:

    D&D 5E (2014) rules for attacking with a shield?

In real life a shield was used offensively to unbalance the opponent*, not to deal real damage. A shield has no reach to speak of. No sharp edges, no momentum. It's like a very clumsy fist. Get a shield, and try to imagine how you would damage a guy with armour, a shield, or just plain...

    Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook

3 out of 5 rating for Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook This is a very solid set of rules. Fundamentally it is a cleaned up D&D 3.5, errataing a lot of things.Had it stopped there it would have been good, but when trying to rebalance things they always add more. All classes have more abilities, you...

D&D 5E (2014) Ghouls still not quite right in MM

Fantasy paralysis hasn't got that much to do with real life paralysis. The fantasy trope paralysis locks the whole body down, not relaxes. (Realistically you'd probably keel over anyhow, as we are seldom in perfect balance if we suddenly stop moving. But that's not as evocative.)

D&D 5E (2014) Is every Official Adventure Going to be about Saving the World?

Absolutely not, but it means that the decision to make a long APs about saving the world yet another time lies entirely in the hands of the wizards, not the farmers*. I think the ticket is to make shorter adventure arcs, say a few levels each, and leaving space and time that can be filled with...

D&D 5E (2014) Is every Official Adventure Going to be about Saving the World?

I think we can safely say that wizards isn't letting the farmers sow their own crops, but give them some fairly explicit orders.

D&D 5E (2014) Is every Official Adventure Going to be about Saving the World?

I heartily recommend Groo vs. Conan for that sort of story. The main quest is to save the bakery. Truly. And it pits the most barbariany barbarians of all the known space and time against each other, in a story that spans several dimensions. At least sort of several dimensions. And it is sort...

D&D 5E (2014) Is every Official Adventure Going to be about Saving the World?

I've been bored with the theme for a while. It does get boring, it is all so epic and all that. We do need a Dungeon magazine for variety.

    D&D 5E (2014) rules for attacking with a shield?

My take, based on what is actually in the rules: You can use a shield as an improvised weapon. That means it isn't used as a shield that round. Improvised, and so generally unskilled, deals 1d4 bludgeoning damage, not a light weapon. (1d4 because of consistency. Easy to remember, and it does...

Saves are taken care of with the level 7 Evasion ability.

    D&D 5E (2014) Save dexterity with Plate armor !

Heavy armour does not let you add your dexterity modifier to AC. In all other cases, Saves, Ability checks, Attack rolls, it works as normal.

    D&D 5E (2014) Realms Recent History

Basically wizards is going back to the pre-4e Realms. I've read two of the Sundering books, and looked at the Baldur's Gate comic. In all of them old characters are resurrected, one way or another, so that Drizzt can run around with Catti-Brie and so on. Looks like they're trying to forget...
