    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog: Tone and Edition

    Seems fine enough to me.

Pathfinder 1E Why Paizo fans are better than WotC fans.

What?? If this is the future of 13th edition D&D I am totally IN, man! Radical! You are such an old man grognard... Totally five-foot square man, five-foot square.

D&D 4E The reason 4E doesn't work well except for "Dungeon Delves" or "Encounters"

Thirded. For what it's worth we rarely do dungeon crawls or encounter style sessions and 4e is working magnificently in any case.

WotC announces 'Rise of the Underdark' campaign

Sounds pretty big, big enough that I wonder why they're doing it now with the looming news of 5th ed.? I haven't kept up with news though so might be missing something.

D&D 5E (2014) Pros and Cons of Kits, Prestige classes and Paragon paths. How 5e should handle it?

My biggest problem with PrCs in 3e was the preponderance of "-4 to weapon you'll never use, +2 to weapon you use all the time, with the barest hint of flavor" PrCs. At one point during our 3e campaign, we took a look at existing PrCs to see if we could construct those archetypes using base...

    Player's Options: Skills & Powers (a comeback?)

We used it, and loved it. Yes, it could be horribly abused and needed some supervision, but it expanded character options to whole new levels. With such supervision it certainly didn't break any of our games.

    What's an "Aragorn Style" ranger?

Can we stop inferring that people who dislike the writing style of Tolkien have some sort of low-patience/childish interests/love of Twilight/character flaw? I'm 34, I've read plenty of books of all kinds, including all manner of classics and modern literature. I dislike Tolkien's writing...

    Experience Points Gone?

Hi, I can't see anyone's XP, nor can I see mine, or add to any. Have experience points been disabled? Sorry if I'm missing something completely obvious.

What makes Dungeons & Dragons "Dungeons & Dragons?"

It's Dungeons and Dragons when whoever legally owns the brand name calls it Dungeons and Dragons. Otherwise, it's any number of combination of arbitrary things that someone may "feel" is D&D, although no one's feeling is going to jive completely with someone else's, and certainly not with...

Legends and Lore - Nod To Realism

You know, the main thing that bothers me about these posts - his ambiguously self-affirming poll questions. Let me explain it by a metaphor. They're phrased much like this: "We should help the starving." Rate 1 to 5. Most people would answer "5," and I'm concerned that when they do, he would...

Oops, I failed a Breathe check

I guess this is fine if you game with friends who like to issue ultimatums instead of talking things through. Or you game with enemies.

Pics of female fighters/knights in realistic armor?

Metal boobies would do a particularly good job of guiding glancing attacks straight to the heart. That's probably more of a bugaboo for me than random pieces being missing.

In what other games is fudging acceptable?

A DM adding an ad-hoc circumstantial modifier is much the same as fudging, mathematically. In any case doesn't really matter if everyone's having a good time.
