Random Question - Creatures with powers that resist the prone effect?

Out of the 38 solo monster entries in the Monster Manual, 20 are not listed as part of multi-creature encounters. A level X solo monster is, in and of itself, a level X encounter. The encounter listings are suggestions to balance that level X solo in a level X + Y encounter. Again, you...

Random Question - Creatures with powers that resist the prone effect?

Actually, yes it does. DMG p. 55 "Solo monsters are specifically designed to appear as single opponents against a group of PCs of the same level." The rest of that section is also illuminating. Of course it doesn't mean you can't include other monsters in the encounter, but a solo should be...

    Rule-of-Three: 02/28/2011

Awesome that they're making new material for the standard a-w/e/d format class builds. I'm not particularly fond of the Essentials style.

    Class features & Class themes

Yes they "stack." Although, class build and theme really have nothing to do with each other (Tempest is a Fighter class build feature, and Gladiator is a theme that any class or build can take), so maybe stack isn't the right term. Anyway they both work on the same character.

    Weapon Proficiency?

A waraxe is a superior weapon. Look on your summary to see if you have a feat called "superior weapon proficiency: waraxe." The default proficiencies for each class are listed in the PHB/PHB2/PHB3 in front of each class description.

    Stargate Emoverse to be cancelled

Completely agree. The cheesy "here are good guys here are bad guys" sci-fi had its day, but it's way overdone. This is the only Stargate series I enjoyed.

Adric Fel - Errors in Character Sheet

Hey, don't freak out. This is all I meant: That it probably would have been a simple matter to find a guy who plays 4e to do the numbers right with a miniscule amount of effort. The rest of it, I dunno. I haven't read the comic.

Meaning of Levels, Throughout the Editions

Huh? No, I've been playing and DMing from every edition since BECMI and I've never heard of character level not being openly enumerated to the player. The rest of your paragraph must also have been a campaign specific thing as well, as generally the rules recommended the PCs start not more than...

Adric Fel - Errors in Character Sheet

This isn't some "OMG, what if Gandalf were D&D!!" sort of thing. This is a comic created out of D&D, of which the stats for the main character are in the back of said comic to promote the game. It's not unreasonable to expect some accurate stats.

Meaning of Levels, Throughout the Editions

I completely agree, and would add that individual campaigns contribute greatly to what levels mean as well. On another note, BECMI level ranges were as follows: B 1-3, E 4-14, C 15-25, M 26-36, and Immortal being another set of "leveling" altogether.

    Skill Challenges: Please stop

I disagree with the premise that (b) is necessarily making the game great. Secondly, there's nothing preventing you from awarding ad hoc bonuses in skill challenges for RP that you think is fantastic, or for whatever reason you want. (Personally, as a DM, just making an impassioned plea to a god...

Using fortune cards to reward roleplaying

So anyone want to discuss the original post? There's already a "(de-)merits of Fortune Cards" thread. Anyway, I was going to do nearly the same thing. I normally reward "DM's die" for things I like (admittedly, I'm pretty arbitrary with this reward, as I'm close friends with the people I DM - I...

    Level Up!

I've not tracked XP since 2e, and I've been playing more or less continuously since BECMI days. Between the rewards in-story, and more tangible things like magic, XP always seemed sort of redundant as another dimension of reward.

    why play rogue/thief?

He's referring to PHB rogue vs. Essentials thief. While they're both "rogue" class, the fundamental class structure is different.

    D&D 4E 4E feats vs Essential Feats. A list?

For what it's worth, I completely agree with you. PHBI, PHBII, PHBIII, AP, DP, MP, MP2, etc. had a certain class structure, and material that clearly relied on each other. Essentials has another type of class structure, many elements that supersede the previous list, as well as verbiage that...

Does Distracting Flare let you stealth?

Where does it say that Stealth happens after the action? Actually, the text for Stealth states "The check is usually at the end of a move action, but it can be at the end of any of the creature’s actions that involve the creature moving." That is not the same as after. I am not at all sure now...

Does Distracting Flare let you stealth?

Because if you do that with Aspect of Agility, your enemy would be aware of exactly what path you took before you stealthed, and would move towards you anyway. Whereas if you used Distracting Flare and stealthed, it would appear to your enemy simply that you'd disappeared, and presumably he'd...
