    Help With Jailing

True. People do get punished for their crimes, after all. Nothing wrong I see. It wouldn't make much of a difference if he kills some guards. He's gonna hang for a murder he didn't commit, or one he did. Either way he's going to hang.

    Help With Jailing

Beware tieing his hands to his belt, as he could just take it off. Put a chain with a lock, or something, around his waist that he can't take off and tie his hands to that :) Oh yeah, and like italianranma hinted, don't fear the big guy just because he's big. Maybe I'm just vindictive, but I...

    Help With Jailing

First, do they know he's a wizard, or at least have a reason to think so? Second, how dangerous do they consider him, and how ruthless are they? If's he's considered very dangerous and/or they're very ruthless, there shouldn't be any problems with securing his hands behind his back, gagging...

Gah, I cursed it with my praise!! :bump:

    Does Language Matter?

Oh? Does... this ring a bell? :D Rank Fluency 1 You know a few basic words (man, yes, hello, the) 2 You can construct a few simple phrases (I want water; Where is the house?) 3 You can have basic conversations (It should rain today; How many pigs for 4 silvers?) 4-6 You can converse with...

    Does Language Matter?

Does anyone use any type of RL-style languages? For example, English is an offshoot of German, so learning one aids the other? Or maybe Sylvan to Elven? Does anyone even bother with languages? I've been using the same languages and basic world map forever. After tons of gaming, I'm putting in...

    Tell me about medieval armies!

Wow, all of this is totally awesome. I hope there's a few more people who'll chime in. Even if nobody ever used any of this in a game, it's good reading!

    Most Amusing Rule Misinterpretation?

I'd heard of this once, then I actually got to see it in person with a random group I joined. They believed that excess points healed from the cure spells were added to your hit point total. Permanently! Now, I can understand this mistake from a bunch of new gamers... but these were guys in...

What details do you miss from older editions?

The experience calculation table. A fighter with straight 12's was worth less than one with straight 18's. Classes being very different from each other. Like rangers getting 2d8, and. barbarians with double Dex and Con. Being a fighter was a punishment. You didn't uphold your holy tenants? You...

    Question: XP Penalty vs. LA?

That's a good point about how such a small percentage doesn't mean much. I realize that such a system of XP penalties does nothing for balance at 1st level, but I'm ok with that for now. I'm more interested in this idea for low LA creatures, +1 to maybe +3. An equal level drow in the party, for...

    Tell me about medieval armies!

Thanks for everyone's help so far! I should have known that my question was a bit too general, as they usually are. But, I do get more varied and open ended responses that way ;) For a more specific time, well, I don't really know. Whatever time period a typical D&D game most closely...

    Tell me about medieval armies!

How did standing armies work from a soldier's point of view? I know how America's army works now, though I imagine it was much different long ago. A few specific questions to get brains rolling. All of this assumes a feudal European setting, since that most closely resembles my D&D campaigns...

    Question: XP Penalty vs. LA?

I've seen the rules for buying off Level Adjustment. I like the idea, but I don't like the method. Too clunky. Could a permanent penalty to experience achieve the same results? Like, every +1 of LA is equal to a 5% XP penalty, or something along those lines? So a +2 LA creature would have a 10%...

    Brainstorming a Mix of Editions

Installment IV of Real Ultimate D&D Ssyleia: I know what you mean about the fun of "min/maxing" a character. Some people say it's bad, but heck, character creation is half the fun for a lot of people. So yeah, I do see what you mean. But I know enough people that aren't interested in that...

Move to Rules! - How much time passes during round?

I'd like to know more about that, too. I was thinking about a system using segments and recovery times and that type of thing, even though I'd likely never use it. Might be fun for some brain exercise.

    Poison! (not the band)

No Wisdom damage yet :) It is a work in progress after all, which is why I posted it here. I only wanted rounds for the interval because if used something larger, like minutes, it would be similar to the current system of "Ow!", a minute of painlessness passes, "Ow!" Seems silly to me. Also, a...

Move to Rules! - How much time passes during round?

Well, I can see that I'm trying to make things too complicated. I just need to suspend my disbelief at all the simultaneousness without simultaneous results. My biggest problem with it is having lots of people in the initiative all doing tons of things, all at practically the same time. If you...

favored class as a bonus not penalty-ideas?

Instead of one Favored Class per race, there's 2 (except for humans, who get any). Standard elves would have like ranger or wizard, or something like that. Dwarves would have fighter or cleric. You get the point :)

Crunch Vs. Fluff - where do you stand?

I voted for crunch. Fluff is very important, and I love it, but none of the members of our group ever get into using someone elses fluff. It's fun to read, but it doesn't come up in the game. We have our own ingrained fluff.

Spellcasting classes for a rare-magic setting

I don't have SA, but I'm sure anyone could whip up a pretty simple spellcaster, like a wizard or sorcerer, and just give it a few witchy abilities, and viola. So what witchy stuff did you have in mind? What about the flavor of the SA witch class do you like?
