Ah, the joys of the post

MB, If you know any FGUSs (Friendly Gamers in the US), perhaps you could come to some arrangement with one by which he picks up an extra copy of each at his FLGS and sends them your way by printed airmail rate. You then reimburse him via PayPal. You would get them sooner and it probably would...

Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde illusion

Cool  At MIT? I had a similar moment yesterday evening. I was reading Gaming as Culture: Essays on Reality, Identity and Experience in Fantasy Games when I noticed that one of the references was published in a book edited by a professor I had when I did my master's (a looong time ago)...

Yes but he didn't pay me enough which is why you're still alive. ;)

    Your favorite nonstandard races?

I've been having fun recently playing a neanderthal from Frostburn. He's very thick (Int 3) and comes from a different culture from the other characters in the party which makes for some interesting/amusing RP situations. Incidentally, the Player's Companion published by Technomancer Press...

Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde illusion

Check out this illusion in which a calm face appears to turn angry, and an angry face calms down as you back away from the screen. Cool, eh?

Misprounced Monsters; Or... What did you call that monster, again?

And while we're onto mispronounced names, the first syllable of Jekyll as in The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is pronounced JEEK (rhymes with "cheek"), not JEK (rhymes with "check").

Misprounced Monsters; Or... What did you call that monster, again?

In American, not in English. In English, it's "HERB". :\

Misprounced Monsters; Or... What did you call that monster, again?

That's more or less correct in English, depending on the meaning. It's from the French for hidden as a qualifier and hide as a noun, and therefore pronounced "ca-SHAY" or "CASH" depending on the context.

What are some good 2 player board/card games

Knightmare Chess by Steve Jackson Games is a great game for two people. Technically, it's a chess variant but it's so whacky that being a chess grandmaster isn't going to help. You will need your own chess board and pieces as Knightmare Chess (and Knightmare Chess II) only includes the cards...

    Blame it on JRRNeiklot

If New Line are smart (and they haven't shown themselves to be so far), they'll take on a director who will imitate Jackson's style, cinematography and art direction (though perhaps lighter, as you put it). It would likely turn out badly if they allowed their new director to make his mark on The...

    Hello

Hello, Dragongirl. FWIW I remember you. When you originally posted your portrait, a number of posters were surprised IIRC - I guess they figured you didn't look geeky enough to be a gamer. :p I also recall that you didn't do your avatar yourself. Someone did it for you. I've met randomling in...

Ultimate Game Table Coming to eBAY

Wouldn't it be easier to use quieter balls rather than carpeting the channels? Tennis balls perhaps, with a slit cut into them so you can pop the message inside. Or would tennis balls be too big? Also, wouldn't carpet in the channels dampen the acoustics of the speaker system?

Go here and scroll down. Among others, you'll see the d9 and d11 that Jason Huff and I invented, and which Jason made.

Finding d16s (was: How Balanced are d16s?)

Jason Huff and I invented a fair d15 which Jason made for me out of aluminium. Jason is a professional machinist, and a highly skilled one at that, and he said that is was difficult to make. I asked him if he would make me a d17 and d19 based on the same design principle but he declined on the...
