Strahd Returns with Curse of Strahd Revamped: An In-Depth Review

Beth Rimmels: ‘The original version of CoS even included the g-word, which is a slur for those of Romani heritage.’ ...in the US (and possibly some other countries) but not universally. In the UK, ‘Gypsy’ and ‘Gypsy Roma’ are endonyms. The removal of ‘Gypsy’ has more to do with CoS/Ravenloft...

WotC Drizzt Do'Urden Action Figure Available for Pre-Order

Cool though it is that they are bringing out a Drizzt action figure, I don’t think they have captured his good looks particularly well. My favourite depiction of the character is from the Legend of Drizzt graphic novels. As for 3D representations, I prefer my Kre-o/LEGO mash-up. Since taking...

    Lessons Learned from Virtual Gaming

Hello, Andy P., Nice to see you here at EN World. Hope you‘ve been keeping well. Completely agree. I’m in an Avernus campaign of one DM and seven players. We’ve been using Roll20 for graphics and Discord for audio (and sometimes images). During the first few sessions, we had problems with...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Celebration Schedule Announced

With regards to the D&D races, I suspect that if the game had called them 'folks' or some other term from the beginning (I find 'species' too scientific for a fantasy game), there wouldn't be a move to homogenise them. It's only because 'race' is such a politically charged term in the real world...

    Dice tower

Who hasn't created a little tower of dice in an idle gaming moment? I have just received my Kickstarter-backed dice tower from Turrim. I think I originally found out about the project through the News section right here at EN World. The dice are better as a display piece than as actual dice...

RPG Evolution: Why the New D&D Board Game is a Big Deal

You may well be right. Another possibility is that MtG and D&D had separate P&Ls. Merging P&Ls is both complex and costly, and makes divestment of one without the other very involved. Bringing them together suggests that Hasbro is committing to WotC indefinitely. Having this new board game in...

D&D 5E (2014) Rime of the Frostmaiden Previews Include a Scroll of Tarrasque Summoning

Now I’m disappointed. I really wanted a helpless horror, one with a jar containing a Brian. That’s a homunculus called Brian. I’ve got a couple of those: one cut from the magazine and the other uncut and still in the mag.

    D&D 5E (2014) Icewind Dale Dice

I don’t mind whether my d6s have pips or numerals as long as they’re consistent, i.e. not one d6 with pips and another in the same colour-way with numerals. Also, it bugs me when numeral d6s have a line or dot to indicate orientation under the 6. Why is that needed? It couldn’t be a 9 on a d6!

The Plastic Ancestry of the Bulette

Little known fact: ‘bulette’ is pronounced ‘boo-lay’, possibly after Gary’s favourite brand of whisky.

    D&D 5E (2014) Who's In Mythological Figures & Maleficent Monsters?

Fantastic - in every sense! Thank you. By the way, KS's save function isn't working. When you click you're interested it says it will notify you at the project's launch but when you go to your 'saves', it isn't there

    D&D 5E (2014) Who's In Mythological Figures & Maleficent Monsters?

If you ever do an MF&MM 2, it would be great if you included entries associated with ones from MF&MM 1 such as from Arthurian legend (Sir Gawain, Sir Percival), Robin Hood lore (Maid Marian, Sheriff of Nottingham, Ivanhoe, Will Scarlet, Alan-a-Dale), Biblical sources (Samson, Goliath), Beowulf...

    D&D General Alignment in D&D

I had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan Tweet at UK GenCon in London many years ago. He kindly agreed to sign my PHB despite the fact that I doorstepped him while he was moseying from stand to stand and not 'on duty' at the WotC booth. What a gent! With regards to the topic at hand, I have read...

    Polyhero Rogue Dice

Polyhero, makers of theme-shaped dice, is currently shipping its latest product: Rogue dice. I got my set today. The pictures below are Polyhero's. My Gem d20 in Roguish Rouge (not pictured) which was supposed to be transparent is completely opaque, not even translucent. And it has...

D&D General Hilarious typos in D&D books

Can't remember the source (could have been Dungeon Master for Dummies) that instead of Castle Maure says 'Castle Manure' [sic] in its index. Don't know if Castle Manure features in the Avernus campaign but it could explain the peeing. Maybe the elf though it was the done thing to pee at a castle...

    D&D General The Sales of D&D vs. AD&D vs. AD&D 2nd Edition

Wait! Whaaaat? You mean I've been playing D&D - in its various editions/versions - since the early '80s and all this time I've been dressing up in costume for nothing? Nothing! No wonder other gamers in their jeans and T's were giving me funny looks. Now, it makes sense. Just kidding!

Let's Take Another Look At That One Ring 2E Cover

Me too, but if a player wanted to run a female character and the GM was being true to the milieu as written of The LotR and The Hobbit, that character would be a very unusual sight indeed especially if she were a warrior. Tolkien himself had a female shield-maiden and a male hobbit killing the...
