    Cloak of Mage Armor

Because it is the price point at which the comparison to the padded armor is the worst - below, and the price difference is lower. Above, and the price difference is irrelevant because you can't get the padded armor to higher than +5. Assuming the MIC is in play and that that slot is not...

Can I use a ray to make a called shot?

Uh, yes. That was my point exactly.

Can I use a ray to make a called shot?

And me! But I don't feel the need to put my $0.2 in, partly because my national currency isn't dollars, and partly because I feel the people mentioned here are arguing excellently for my point of view.

    Cloak of Mage Armor

Yes. You don't need to buy Bracers of Armor +6. No, but it is a difference. I wish I hadn't mentioned it now, since it gave you an excuse to ignore a more important point. And which slot would that take? The gloves? Sorry, dex. Bracers? Sorry, Bracers of Armor. Belt? Sorry, con. etc. And...

    Cloak of Mage Armor

Not really. 17 (start) +3 (levels) +4 (racial) +6 (item) = 30. You just have to focus in it. And yeah, 36000 is a significant chunk of 150000 (Catfolk have +1 LA, so we have an ECL 14 character, hence if we follow expected wealth per level in the DMG the character would have 150 000 available...

Why is Polar Ray an 8th level spell?

Why is nobody pointing out that ER counts thrice against Scorching Ray?

    Cloak of Mage Armor

At least two of my characters. At least 4 characters in as many campaigns. An excellent example would be my level 13 Catfolk Ranger/Scout who had a +10 DEX modifier.

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

Thanks, I had missed that when I skimmed that section. It does put a new light on things. I shall consult my books.

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

I don't find that a compelling argument for "precedent".

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

Oh, I'm sorry. Did you not read my previous post, the one you answered by "oh, you're trying to be reasonable"? Let me spell it out for you: A spell-like ability works like a spell of the same name. The glossary says nothing about where to look up spells. Spells are listed in the PHB...

Metamagic and Warlocks, and pesky wands

To be precise, it is determined by the spell level of the spell, and only that. The DC is determined this way: 10+spell level+(the modifier for the minimum spellcasting ability score to cast that spell) In the case of, say, Fireball, this is 10+3+1=14. This is because the minimum Intelligence a...

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

I'm not trying to "be reasonable", I'm trying to point out that if you didn't know to look up rules in other books than the one you're currently reading, you would have no way of knowing what "Spell like ability: Dominate Person at will (DC 18)" did.

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

This is true. However, if my GM told me to make a 3rd level character for a new campaign, and specified "standard starting money", I would crack open my DMG, not my PHB, to find those starting money. That means that since I know there is more than 1 core book, I can reference things in other...

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

I resent that. Yes. Yes, I did. It's still not a reference to the DMG. Just as the stats for what you gain when you gain a Humanoid Hit Dice as a Bonus Hit Die from Inspire Greatness is irrelevant for many PCs.
  15. E

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

If that is the case, the PC wealth per level for PCs starting above level 1 chart in the DMG is also irrelevant to creating characters, since if you create a character there is nothing in the PHB that references anything else than the starting money chart at the beginning of the Equipment chapter.

    Cloak of Mage Armor

Uh, from whom exactly? The only one you could wish to argue to in order to "Warrant a Price Reduction" would be a GM. And I disagree. There is no hard cap on Bracers of Armor's combined armor and dexterity bonus to AC, and hence it is a superior option in any situation where that is relevant...

    Bo9s hit dice per level?

IMO, the random maneuvers available each round can add significantly to the game. It makes the Crusader play like the other Bo9S classes, only more so - that is, unlike other melee classes, they do not tend to do the same thing every round.

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

So in a high-level campaign, a dragon who is a character can take a level of sorcerer and then stop aging?
  19. E

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

So you're arguing that once a Dragon takes a level of Sorcerer, it can no longer age?
  20. E

    Cloak of Mage Armor

I still think the Bracers of Armor are reasonably priced because any other item that provides an armor bonus and exists in the game provides a maximum dexterity bonus that puts a hard cap on how much AC you can get from the sum of your Armor Bonus and your Dexterity Bonus. Hence the Bracers of...
