    [Houserule] Longer healing times

Yeah, or Con modifier + (Level * X) where X is the dial for HP gain.

I don't understand Gridless combat. HELP!

That sounds a lot like how I run my games. I prefer the grid to be fairly abstract: I use a Chessex battlemat and a box of wooden blocks for terrain. They fit conveniently exactly onto the square grid. And they were cheap, too! When I bought the battlemat, I also grabbed a Bag O' Munchkins to...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Monsters....What should they look like?

How 4e handles monsters mechanically is probably my favorite thing about 4e. When I say probably, I mean definately. So I'd like 5e's monsters to be like that.

    Move - Attack - Move

I don't know how exactly Mearls was thinking of handling this (he's mentioned it once or twice when asked about AoOs/OAs), but I kind of like it in theory. But in practice... I don't really see my players ever going for that option and it would just mean another thing for me to track ("No, you...

Is "you can, but at a penatly" the same as "you can't?"

My players take OAs all the time in 4e; they see it as a fair risk. They were also perfectly willing to accept Disadvantages in the playtest for the same reasons, but anyone mention a "minus" to a roll and nooooooo... dismissed out of hand. (Math is scary.)

    Move - Attack - Move

What about what Mearls has been suggesting, that if there are OAs/reactions, they take up your action for the Round. When your turn comes next, you can move, but you've spent your action and have to wait until next round to bash something again.

For playtesters: the lack of morale rules

I've flirted with Morale checks in 4e, but never found them to be a good fit, somehow (although I sometimes have NPCs run away). I decided to try it out for some Kobold and Goblin encounters in the playtest (rolled under Wisdom after Rounds where their side took massive casualties) and yeah, the...

    PCs vs. DMPCs

As far as XP goes, I'd rate them as an Elite monster of the same level, I think.

    Playtesters: Are you using miniatures?

We played as we play our 4e game: play smaller skirmishes off the grid, but bigger setpieces on the grid. I think we pulled out the grid three times.

    D&D 4E Would you still play 4e?

We've never had access to DDI, so it wouldn't affect us much.

Presentaion of Spells: To Prose or Not To Prose?

I don't care where they stick the spells; with the classes, in their own chapter or in an appendix. I was only thinking that if they're going full on with the prosaic spells, that I'd like to get a big table of condensed versions of all the spells, either in the PHB or in a printable PDF. The...

Presentaion of Spells: To Prose or Not To Prose?

Or just give us a massive table in one the appendices containing condensed versions of all the spells. Or as a download.

Presentaion of Spells: To Prose or Not To Prose?

Yeah, I can never remember the details of spells. I can remember the intent of a spell, but I always have to look it up/check the powercard for the exact implementation. That kinda stuff just doesn't stick to my brain. :/

The Caves of Chaos: Not very good?

I guess it simply depends on where your strengths lie. A module layered with a detailed backstory and plot is useless for me, for I can easily make that up on the fly and any premade plots are just going to get in my way. But give me some floorplans and a bucketful of premade encounters to read...

Presentaion of Spells: To Prose or Not To Prose?

I'm loving the flavour when reading the spells (very well written; verbose, but clear), but I'm kinda hating it in play. I really like being able to understand a power at a glance in 4e. The players (who all only tried 4e) I gathered for the playtest are split: Two really like the new format...

    Quick Playtest Report

Last night: Me: "Roll for attack. You have Advantage." Thief Player: "Nice! I rolled a 19." Me: "You should've rolled two dice, remember. Although, y'know, nevermind; what with the 19." * The thief absent-mindedly rolls her other d20* Thief: "20! I rolled a 20! Critical! NEVER FORGETTING...

    Wisdom too powerful?

Great at deduction, but he's so damned quick at it because he's maxed out his Perception skill and probably has a bunch of feats (or traits).

    Wisdom too powerful?

Yeah, deduction should be Intelligence, but it requires you to study the surroundings. Wisdom is when your intuition kicks in and you notice the trap door just before you step on it.

    Monte on Character Creation

I agree with Monte, at least on principle. I hate chargen in 3e and 4e. I love creating characters, but translating them to stats is a pain. At the same time, while I as a player will never enjoy customizing my characters to that extent, a lot of players do and I'm cool with that: Let them spend...

    Charging?

Hmm. Fair point, I didn't consider the Thief's Sneak Attack. I was only thinking about one of my players (and why I was thinking about Charge at all) who has a thing for charging, Leeroy Jenkins-style. I guess I'll just throw her a d6.
