    Track & Field accident

    It's a quote from Stargate SG-1. The fourth season episode "2001", if I am not much mistaken.

    Mushroom Hunting Season is drawing nigh!

    As it happens, I don't. :) Well, seed-bearing fruit, but that's about it.

    Mushroom Hunting Season is drawing nigh!

    I think most of the mushrooms 'round here are toxic, but I've never made a serious inquiry. I object to the idea of eating things that propogate by spore. :)

    Opposed-alignment cleric scrolls

    Wands and staves are spell trigger items, which function dissimilarly from scrolls and cast spells. Given the description below, clerics are able to use oppositely-aligned staves/wands IMO.

    Stargate SG-1 Season 10 *Discussion Thread* 9/22

    I think that would only have succeeded in killing Daniel. Inara The Orisi was still protected by her amulet which, if it functions like the one McKay found on Atlantis, would protect her from falls.

    Iron Man Suit Rejects

    Seriously. My knowledge of comic superheroes/villains is sorely lacking, for a geek. I spent the bulk of my childhood trying to be older than I was, and as such didn't see myself as having time for such plebean pursuits as comic books (as I considered them at that point). After all, it's much...

    Iron Man Suit Rejects

    Well, that was different than what I had expected. I came in thinking "Wait, someone's trying to make a movie out of a Black Sabbath song?", never having heard of the Iron Man superhero before. Guess you do learn something every day.

    Long range spells and aiming

    Don't forget, though, that this is what wizards do. Their continued employment (and, often, existence) is contingent upon them being able to pull up magical effects upon demand (assuming reasonable notice beforehand) and have said effects do exactly what the party wants (with reasonable...

    An Odd Situation

    Yep, that sounds about right. However, what's the gestation time, if you will, of a dracolich corpse? Standard liches reform in 1d10 days, but they need to reform from scratch, rather than just possess a body. Is the dracolich's regeneration substantially shorter? OTOH, how big is this...

    Try again <sigh> Monks and Improve Natural Attack

    Ah, I think this is your problem right here. I suspect most readers wouldn't think of the other side as having any validity, by definition. As Cedric pointed out, it is possible to understand where the other side is coming from and why they decided as they did; this does not mean that their...

    Using magic items

    Weapons, armor, shields, wonderous items, rods and rings may be used by anyone (within certain restrictions set by the items themselves). Staves and wands (spell trigger items) require that the person using the item have the spell to be cast on their spell list, even if they can't yet cast it...

    Reincarnate = Immortality?

    Mathematically, it shouldn't matter. When performed on the score at death, we get: 11 - 2 (losing the orc bonus) - 2 (gnome penalty) + 3 (removal of age penalties that no longer apply) = 10 When performed on the original score we get: 14 - 2 (losing the orc bonus) - 2 (gnome penalty) - 0 (no...

    The Sound of Silence

    I suspect that this was intended to be an amusing question and little more, but I would imagine that a failed Move Silently roll on the part of the living spell would represent not so much the creature itself causing a noise but rather the creature blocking a previously-noisy area/object. This...

    What's the big deal with point buy?

    Pfft! Any true AD&D player knows that Wizards made a ginormous mistake in abandoning Comliness as a core stat. :D

    When memory fails.

    I think it's Revivify, and I think it appears in the Spell Compendium, among other places.

    Mummy Rot

    Heh, I've avoided using mummies for that very reason: I thought that mummy rot was a death sentence if the players didn't happen to prepare Remove Curse that day. I just now looked it up after you mentioned it, and imagine my surprise. Mummies all around, next campaign!

    Anti-Magic Field

    Technically it is a magical spell so it is detectable with magical aura-detecting spells, though it would seem somewhat strange for an antimagic field, of all things, to radiate magic. I figure that while Arcane Sight is up, the user sees magical auras "background radiation", if you will...

    Save-or-die spell modifications

    Hi, all! After having played a wizard in a recent D&D campaign, I've become reacquainted with how unfun it is to be on the recieving end of save-or-die spells. I don't want to remove them completely from my upcoming campaign; they're neat spells, but I do want to tone them down to not be...

    Reincarnate = Immortality?

    Y'know, I seem to recall a passage of Masters of the Wild suggesting you could do this very thing. I should see if I can find that. Edit: Eh, it's inconclusive. Page 80 mentions that even the aged can be given a new lease on life, brought back in a young adult body. However, it doesn't address...

    The most disturbing thing youve seen/experienced

    I think I've seen the video you refer to (side note: those who grossly mislabel video files irk me!), and seem to recall that it looked like it was faked. For instance, the "entry wound" appears very shortly before the weapon is fired (IIRC), and the resultant "blood" on the wall looks much more...
