Why do you keep playing 4e?

I started my campaign and am having a blast. Like many have already mentioned, DMing 4e is fun and a lot less stressful. My players and I have started noticing some of the nuances of 4e, like how there's less emphasis on negative modifiers--for example, if you're not proficient with a weapon...

A Paladin and a Cleric are praying to the same god, which is heard from first?

The answer depends on who rolled the highest initiative.

A Gaming Table My Wife Will Let Me Have

I think the Sultan is almost too nice to game on. I mean, if I owned it, I'd totally freak out if some drink got spilled on it. But yes, its looks really nice.

Why do you keep playing 4e?

My campaign starts tomorrow (Sunday). I can't wait to run. I really like how creating my own adventure for 4e is quicker than creating one for 3e. The stats and numbers don't get in the way of creating a good adventure--especially with NPCs. I realize now that 3.0/3.5e treated every monster...

Fudging the Numbers in 3ed - Forked from: Why do you keep playing 4e?

I haven't done much fudging with numbers in 4e...yet. Still, with 3e, everytime I wanted to fudge the numbers, I was afraid of the "ripple" effect. For example, I want to change an NPCs Intelligence from 16 to 18. That +1 bonus "ripples" across skills, feats, certain powers, spells, etc. It...

Why do you keep playing 4e?

Thanks everybody. Just reading this thread makes me excited to start the 4e campaign this coming Sunday! :) Like I said in my original post, I've only run 4e a couple times as a DM. I ran the little adventure in the back of the DMG and I really enjoyed doing so. My players like it, too. The...

Why do you keep playing 4e?

This question was inspired by this thread: http://www.enworld.org/forum/general-rpg-discussion/248058-why-did-you-quit-playing-d-d-4th-edition.html I think their needs to be some positive things to counter all the anti-4e sediment out there. I'm also going to starting running a 4e campaign...

How to Play D&D With Your Buddies from Highschool

That is a really really good idea. Renting your own house for a week solves a lot of problems. I managed to keep together my high school group for about 4 years after we got out of high school. Ironically, we played more often. But then people just drifted apart. I wanted to do some kind of...

The Dungeon Master or The Rules: why would you play in a RPG campaign?

Sorry. It's kinda late to restart poll now. :(

First Time DM'ing 3.5 Sorcerer... Should I Be Worried?

Have the PC's arch-rival be another sorcerer that just slightly higher in level than he is, so he always has one extra bullet (magic missile, fireball, etc) in the barrel so to speak.

Why the D&D Miniature Line Failed...

As others have said: randomization I held off buying the miniatures until the War of the Dragon Queen line came out. I was going to run the Red Hand of Doom. I thought it'd be neat to have some miniatures that would match up with the creatures encountered in the module. So after about...

The Dungeon Master or The Rules: why would you play in a RPG campaign?

Yeah, I was half-tempted to create another thread where both the system and the DM stunk, but thought better of it. ;) A poor DM can make people flee the hobby all together.

The Dungeon Master or The Rules: why would you play in a RPG campaign?

There's been some questions about the selection of responses, my apologies if they seem strange. Here's my explanation: In my 20 years of gaming, I've discovered that the main reason why people don't try a new system is because they don't want to spend the money on new books. At least, that's...

The Dungeon Master or The Rules: why would you play in a RPG campaign?

Here's the situation: Within your social group of gamers, there is an outstanding Dungeon Master. He's had years of DMing experience, can tell the best stories, run the best adventures and is overall a really nice person. He just finished his current campaign in your favorite RPG--it could...

When did We Stop Trusting Game Designers?

I agree, but I've also experienced the opposite. When game designers keep coming out with a new edition every few years it adds to the problem. I liked 3.5e, but I was content with 3e. I switched to 3.5e because I didn't want to get left out of a social group. Back when 3e came out and I...

    Things I don't like about the 4E DMG - part 1 of 1000

Gizmo33 does have a point, though I don't think he should be as pissed as he sounds. Perhaps Wyatt should have worded it better or perhaps not. I personally would let the player succeed with the ritual. After all, it would have been my fault for allowing that loophole to exist. I'd be ticked...

    Mega Dungeon Idea for 4E

It's a great idea. My only question is: To what extent would the Testing Grounds be reconfigured? I personally think that the player-characters should get some kind of reward for watching previous groups go through the Testing Grounds. Perhaps the crystal balls would only focus in on groups...

What was so bad about the Core 2e rules? Why is it the red-headed stepchild of D&D?

I think one reason 2e gets so much flak is because, at the time, there were better systems out there. Still, one kept encountering 2e. At least those are the reason I kept getting whenever I'd try to run a 2e campaign and get no takers. Another criticism, however, that I've heard is that TSR...

Into The Fire!--Contrasting Analysis of 4E and 3.5E

I'm not complaining about the role of minions, I just find it strange that ogre minions can have 1 hp and kobolds and giant rats have 30+. In previous editions, an average kobold could be taken down by a single hit (1-4 hp) as does a giant rat.
