Monte Cooks WoD is for 3.5

Actually, the cover is the only thing, that holds me back, to preorder it right now. It is so... poor. Compare it to average nWoD cover. Or even worse... compare it with D&D covers. It has this kind of technique I really dislike. One cover artist in our country paints the fantasy books covers...

Monte Cooks WoD is for 3.5

Actually to me it seems pretty apocalyptic... see the destroyed buildings and dead people. World of Darkness is brutal in more subtle way. This seems to be WoD after some catastrophy.

    Help a roll-player role-play!

First thing first. I think, if you like the "roll-playing" or rather combat element of the game more, there is no need to force yourself into the "role-playing" or rather story element of the game. As a player you should enjoy the elements of the game, which brings you fun. On the other hand...

Alignment - is it any good?

Is it? Because lot of real-world churches believe in one God, who will judge the sinners. Although for us, imperfect beings, the good and evil might seem like relative matter once you accept the faith, the good and evil became absolute. Because the God is absolute omnipotent and omniscient...

Alignment - is it any good?

The only reason? No. Important reason? Yes. It is pretty much the same as get the world rid of labels let's say political parties. Would it be easier to choose from hudreds of no-name candidates without knowing that this one is let's say liberal, that one is socialist and the one at the corner...

Alignment - is it any good?

But you are not talking about D&D, are you? I assume, that you are talking about your system Warheart, right? Because I expect, that not using alignment rules in d20system is not a problem. The problem of alignment is mostly exclusive for D&D because of its ties to cosmology, settings and...

Alignment - is it any good?

I like your way point of view. I also believe, that alignment is kind of "ready to use" mindset description. It is a little bit as if I would say, I am phlegmatic, pessimistic materialist. These are also alignments, aren't they. (Choose one out of four temperament alignments -phlegmatic...

Alignment - is it any good?

I know, I know... this is neverending discussion. But I have recently met with group of people, who believe that the best one can do with alignment is not use it. In their opinion, it is not good even for newbies. I would like to find some sources on both positions. The positive and negative...

Chris Pramas (Green Ronin) on the future of D&D

Well, I must admit, that I was little bit disappointed by those "insights". I like Green Ronin a lot and Chris Pramas has my respect, but it was obvious, that there is no insight at all. The prediction like "it will be either this or that, or something in between" is not prediction at all...

Not Everyone is Interested in Powergaming [merged]

I have an impression, that there are acutally very few groups, that play just the powergaming style D&D. I think most of the groups are somewhere in the middle of different aspects of D&D - power gaming, tactics, story and character immersion. And I firmly believe that it is this exact...

Explain "20 Minutes of Fun over 4 Hours" to me

I have very bad experience with this quote, used for bashing D&D. Fans of GNS and indie games used it to promote their games and theory as superior and degrade D&D to poorly design game. I didn't know at that time (well until today, that it was actually quote of Ryan Dancey). I felt very...

    How important are pretty maps?

Honestly, I hate Lazzaretti... if he makes the map, it is almost always not for me. I will skip that adventure or something because of that. Does that explain the importance of pretty map?

Interview with Scott Rouse, Chris Perkins & Bill Slavicsek

OK. I have one question which as far as I know was not asked and I hope somebody can answer it. What is the current position of WotC/Hasbro to the question of d20 licence or OGL. I am reading lot of rumors about this usually accompanied with 4e will not be OGL. So what is the real position of...

    How much would D&D cost?

I think that's the price of TSR aquisition. Today D&D is in much better shape. You would have to double the number. Which also mean that you will not get you money back in at least 8 years. Too risky investment... ;)

    Roleplaying outside the U.S.

Funny. It is one out of two of the the polish RPG I knew. I was trying to read it and despite understanding only every second word (ouch) it looked pretty interesting. Well maybe it is because I like the setting. Sapkowski is very popular south of your borders too! :p Yeah, I know about...

Is gaming *with* a map and minis really bad?

To answer your questions. No. No. Well... yeah. Mins are pretty expensive. At least for me. But I have some anyway. No. But... I don't use them much. And I will tell you why. The true reason is mobility. If I would be playing at home it would be absolutely different kind of thing. But one have...

    Roleplaying outside the U.S.

Interesting. I think, I've seen polish RPG Wiedzmin based on Sapkowski's short stories (and novels). Is it popular? Or at least as a gaming world for other systems?

Making Reflex Save into Defense, but Keeping the Other Saves

Oh I think there is no need to make it opposed rolls. Rather there is a possibility of make it "players roll everything" situation. Monsters have static attack and defense with use of "take 10" rule and players roll both attack and defense as needed. So everybody is happy. DM has less work (just...
