D&D 5E (2014) Gah! So complex! What's an 'old school' gamer to do ??

Thanks ! I think I was getting OSR mixed up with OGL ;) Still not sure what RAW is , probably too small simple for me ..! I played Pathfinder a bit last year and found 2 adventures that I REALLY like that shouldn't be too difficult to convert . Pathfinder is way more complex rules wise IMO...

D&D 5E (2014) Gah! So complex! What's an 'old school' gamer to do ??

Format is a big part of it . Nice to have section at start of each chapter 'Why PCs Are here' etc For example - PCS likely to escort Ireena to Vallaki from Barovia but then get mixed up in all the options open in Vallaki . So much to choose from! If I want to steer them in one...

D&D 5E (2014) Gah! So complex! What's an 'old school' gamer to do ??

Thanks - will check those referrals out for sure . I've got 'Troll Trouble' from dmsguild lined up for our next session . Really liked reading it and think it's a good fit . I dont mind some complexity but these 256 page sandbox styled things are not for me , lesson learned I guess !

D&D 5E (2014) Gah! So complex! What's an 'old school' gamer to do ??

Pretty close ... Story ok but simple is just fine ! We only play 2.5 hours a week and players (the including me !) are not that complex ..!

D&D 5E (2014) Gah! So complex! What's an 'old school' gamer to do ??

In defence of 'old school' and 'rail reading,' as long as players are having fun blah blah blah!!!So excited to get CoS and started reading it but don't think I'll ever use it ... Way too complicated, too many NPCS, too many details, too many moving parts ... Etc . Not saying it's not a great...

    Story line recommendations - reviews?

If I understand correctly, each storyline roughly corresponds to hardcover release but is separate story line?Rage of Demons - Out of the Abyss, Elemental Evil - Princes of the Apocalypse, and so on. I've got a new home group going and would prefer to play through Curse of Strahd, Ravenloft...

CURSE OF STRAHD Is Out Today (In Some Stores)

Apologies I think I double posted this . . ! Is anyone planning to use the DDAL series for their (non-AL) home group rather than CoS? Will the hardcover book be needed to run the AL adventures? Guessing many people running the DDAL series will be buying CoS anyway!

DDAL Here's WotC's 14-Adventure CURSE OF STRAHD Series For DDAL

Is anyone planning to use these for their (non-AL) groups rather than CoS? Will the hardcover book be needed to run the AL adventures? Guessing many people running the DDAL series will be buying CoS anyway!

DDAL Curse of Strahd vs. DDAL adventures

Death House is out, and if I understand clearly Suits of the Mist will be out on Dmsguild on Tuesday. The next 4 will be available April 1 on dmguild? Meanwhile Curse of Strahd is out March 15 - you see where I'm going with this? So there will be six adventures by April 1 with CoS on top of...

“I never had any friends later on, like the ones I had when I was sixteen…does anyone?”

“I never had any friends later on, like the ones I had when I was sixteen…does anyone?” Tried getting a few groups together to play and none have really taken off. I realized one of the reasons I wanted to play again was to try and recapture the feeling of playing with my buddies back in the...

Pathfinder beginner box . . . good deal it seems to me!

OK here's the scoop, new group coming together and decided I do want to use pawns / mat for select battles. I don't want to spend $$$ on this stuff, but do want some basics and don't want to use paper / dice / doritos for battles (insert Bill Cosby routine here). Most cost effective way is...

You can send it all to me if you like . . . I'll pay for the courier! ;)

Not using Grid / minis / pawns

I did original post on my Ipad and for some reason it cut half of it off . . .weird. In any case, part of my hesitation: - cost! I'm a gamer on a budget! Pathfinder bestiary box & flip mat will set me back close to $80 although having played Pathfinder before I think the pawns are great. I am...

Not using Grid / minis / pawns

The PHB indicates using grid as an option. Would you play in a game that didn't ? In my limited experience with playing in a few groups minis etc seem to be expected now. Pathfinder assumes it, although 5e does not.Way back when we never did, and had a great time.I'd love to go out and drop $$...

    Gahh!! Wild shape!?

I did a search and couldn't find anything . . . wild shape getting ridiculous! So druid levels 4-7 can wild shape into MAX CR 1/2, at 8th and up MAX CR 1 with a flying speed. So any 'beast' in the MM is open - have monster by CR list from WOTC site but of course doesn't tell you creature type...
