    Do you pull the chain?

That's a good point. Always put a condom on any strange chain you're yanking.

Wandering Monsters - yea or nay?

I think this is a really good idea. It wouldn't currently work for me, but that's because of my biggest weakness as a GM (I can't seem to keep even half-decent notes), not for any other reason I can see.

DM's Suport Group: Most Cliche Player Behaviors Ever

It would annoy me too (though not as much as your font of choice), partially because Mal isn't an anti-hero. He's a plain out-and-out good guy. (Yes, he would claim otherwise. He's a hero and a liar.)

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

Back on topic, after I wandered into the woods for a bit, the balance between martial mastery and sorcery is distinctly and explicitly in favor of the former in Zelazny's Amber books. Even in the second series, whose protagonist is in fact a sorcerer, the emphasis is on how much of a pain in...

Gencon & Alea Tools & GMing?

Um ... do we actually have to use the markers in the game? I bought a set when they were first at GenCon, and I've just never been able to use them effectively.

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

Not at all. Name a few scenes in which Ron, Harry, Hermione and (Hagrid||Dumbledore) both entered and exited the scene as a group. You won't find many (if any at all). Hagrid and Dumbledore are classic NPCs. (Dumbledore even has a little bit of the annoying nature of Elminster going on.)

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

No, Hagrid's not a PC any more than any of the supporting characters are. The PCs are Ron, Hermione, and Harry. (Arguably there's always a fourth PC in any given book. I guess the group keeps losing that player to Real Life.)

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

Of what? (Serious question. I may have missed something.) All the "PCs" in HP are wizards. BTW, regarding an earlier comment, magic in HP does require wands (as far as I can tell, even the most skilled magickers need them), but it's not slow. Even a death curse is simply two words. Other...

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

No, Batman's power is his preparedness. In M&M terms, Batman with absolutely no gadgets or wealth loses very little in Power Level (the measure of capability in M&M). To be fair, Darkseid recently killed Batman. (He got better, but it took a long time.) In general, villains on the level of...

Wandering Monsters - yea or nay?

I don't understand ... the orcs in your game don't duck out of the guard room occasionally to amble down the hall to drain the dragon? Oh, great. Now I have a mini-movie in my head of a big Uruk-Hai doing the peepee dance. Thanks a lot.

DM's Suport Group: Most Cliche Player Behaviors Ever

I played in a low-magic game once where the GM limited spellcasting classes to being one-in-three to other classes. In other words, if you were a spellcaster, you were gonna be multi-classing. It worked well, but that's because the GM had a good grasp on how to balance out the (this was 3.5)...

Wandering Monsters - yea or nay?

I voted "yea," but it's not that cut and dried for me. (1) I prefer to use "wandering monsters" to control the pace of the game, so I rarely let the dice tell me when or how to use them. (2) That said, sometimes it's fun to absolutely let the dice tell me when and how to use them. (3) I like...

DM's Suport Group: Most Cliche Player Behaviors Ever

I've reached the point in my GMing career -- currently running M&M -- that if a player submits a built character before submitting (and getting approval for) a character concept, I un-invite the player. I simply couldn't be clearer about this requirement for my games, and it flabbergasts me how...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Whip feats?

EN Publishing has a PDF called something like "EN Arsenal: Whips." I've only glanced it over, so I can't exactly say I recommend it, but it's a PDF ... whaddaya got to lose?

Free adventure! ( ... with caveats)

I have an adventure for 7th-level PFRPG PCs. This is an adventure I originally wrote for 3.5, but I've now converted it an updated it for PF. The caveats: (1) Being intended as a convention game, it's linear and rail-roadish. I think the rails are hidden fairly well, especially with a good...

Would You Go to GenCon Solo?

I've gone solo maybe five times (20 percent or so), and it was fine. I noticed I actually tend to do more gaming (two or three slots a day, rather than one or two slots a day) when I'm on my own, though I'm not entirely sure why that is. It might be as simple as not having to, for example...

If you could play in a campaign of your choice, what would it be?

My first choice would be to play in a Mutants & Masterminds campaign. (I'm GMing one, which is almost as good. M&M is one of the few games I've played in which GMing is so close in feel to being a player.) I'd love to play in a game that is reminiscent of the Claremont/Byrne era of the X-Men...

GenCon Event - An Old School Adventure

A couple of years ago I ran this adventure as a 3.5 farewell at GenCon, and it seemed to be very fun for everyone. As the name implies, I designed it to be as evocative as I could of the D&D experiences I've had since I was young. It's straightforward and cliches abound, but there are little...

    HELP! High-tech villain's base?

Rather than reinvent the wheel, I figured I'd ask here. Does anyone have maps for a high-tech HQ/lair? Suggestions and links for PDFs, free or not, would be great, too. Underground would be ideal, but I can likely adapt something above-ground. It of course doesn't have to be specifically for...
