    Speculation: Half-Elf Racial ability

I'd certainly like it to be that way. :)

    An awesome moment

So I'm running my (test-stage) 4E game, and through a series of fumbles I decide to spice up the game by giving my homebrewed monster the power to take over the Elf Ranger, who then starts attempting to take on his teammates on his own. First one up is the Halfling Warlord. [Some quick...

    When did you enjoy 3.x?

3.x was so horribly broken that I enjoyed it for a game or two before being really put off by it. As a powergamer of some dignity I don't like feeling like I'm being pigeonholed into playing a Cleric because it's obviously the best class until Druid hits its majority. I want everything to have...

Doesn't seem to argue any points. The previous intuition of what alignment was was that it was prescriptive, whereas the new one is, in my guesstimation, meant to be seen as descriptive. Evinced by the lack of powers that target specific alignments. Chaotic/good and lawful/evil, sure...

Wrong one. Read #81, and argue with it, please, it's boring if it's just accepted by everyone. Thank you.

Pretty sure WotC is changing alignments to focus more on how the types of actions characters take rather than what they are. I can see Lawful Evil and Chaotic Good characters, but not Lawfully Evil actions or Chaotically Good actions. For good action, you can either do something because you...

But in the case that one is following the laws, they aren't evil--the laws are bad. If eating animals turns out to be evil, is everyone who isn't a vegetarian Evil? Understanding that a law is Bad and following it doesn't make you somehow lawful at heart, but just plain old Evil. This is...

Before, there wasn't much point in defining Chaotic Good vs. Neutral Good, because unless you make them really prescriptive they end up referring to the same thing: doing what you think is right rather than what society thinks is right. As well, Lawful Evil never really made sense, because evil...

    Five Alignments?

Sounds more like old-style Neutral Good. Chaotic good in essence would seem to be more like ignoring a person's personal choices for their own wellbeing. I think that the new "Good" can apply to both the old Chaotic and Neutral Good; you care about the common good more than the...

Skirmisher would be good, though the archer-rangers might feel more like Ambushers. Thank you. Yeah, clerics don't really represent clerks and other clerical workers very well, do they? :D

Warlord is also a supremely bad name for a class. So is the incredibly vague Fighter. They have to stick with tradition though, I suppose. Gotta try to alienate fans as little as possible...

The possibility I'm presenting in this thread is that Rangers should no longer will be thought of as hunters or park rangers...they have the capability, with the optional skills they can choose, but primarily they are the damage-focused variant of the fighter class. Fighter and Ranger are just...

    pawsplay's dealbreaker list

I gots to say it takes cajones to list Rincewind and Dallben as examples. =) I worry that why people still seem to think that casters are now worse weapon-users when they're obviously better in a comparative sense than pre-4.0. Hopefully not. Anyway, opportunity attacks are based on melee...

As far as defender/striker goes, I feel like it would be implausible to make a defender that has no chance of doing damage. Defending truly is generally a rather emasculating role; the upside is thinking that you could rip things up if you wanted to. Which may or may not be true.

    Is Eldrain the New Rouge?

Rogue: no longer synonymous (as in previous incarnations) with Thief. The Eladrin form of teleportation is useful for anyone. Meanwhile, the Elf race seems to be made for a Rogue who emphasizes situational combat capability. I could be wrong, though.

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

It's an issue with most players, apparently. I find that it's more interesting as a player to get involved with the DM in buying magical items, rather than just doing it by myself. It seems much less interactive to have total control over my buying abilities. Not to mention less realistic.

    pawsplay's dealbreaker list

Why bother to do it this way? Sounds like arguing for trial-and-error-that-might-be-an-error-or-might-be-a-quirk-of-fate vs. an educated guess, considering the extreme randomness of real PC death in pre-4E. Kobolds with light crossbows...brilliant.

    D&D 5E (2014) This year's PCs next year's Pantheon?

In my last game, our characters started out as noobs and slowly became influential in a modern/magical setting over the span of 6 years. We started a new campaign and our old characters are still alive as the primary superpowers of the world, though we don't run into them. Actually, halfway...
