August RPG Book Club: Classic Monsters Revisted

As for the Space/Reach thing... we generally leave out the line if it's just the same old 5 ft. space/5 ft. reach. So looking at it that way, the stat blocks that HAVE the line in there for normal old Medium and Small creatures are the ones in error. That said... thanks for all the kind words...

Pathfinder 1E Tell me about the Pathfinder setting

Actually, the Pathfinder Campaign Setting is built for and uses the 3.5 rules 100% through and through. None of our products will be using the Pathfinder RPG rules until next summer, since the Pathfinder RPG rules are still very early in the beta run and are quite subject to change. Of course...

Can anyone write Cthulhu Mythos material?

Also an excellent point. It is indeed pretty complicated.

Can anyone write Cthulhu Mythos material?

The status of Lovecraft's writing as regards copyright are indeed pretty muddled, but as far as I've been able to tell... most everything he wrote seems to be in the public domain. At least... until someone comes along with a legitimate claim to that copyright... and while all indications are...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Adventure Path Subscription Stinker

First of all, I'm sorry that this worked out this way, but it's not a "stunt" by us to get you to continue subscribing to Pathfinder. It's us finally correcting a really bad situation that's been dodging the Pathfinder line since the start. We've tried to keep our customers alerted and aware of...

Who's the Demon Lord of Disease?

I suspect that the shortage of disease-flavored demon lords is mostly due to the fact that the daemons picked up that schtick very early on, in the 1st edition MM2. There wasn't a lot of demon lord development happening at all during 2nd edition, and a lot of 3rd edition's demon lord development...

    Best D&D Adventures

I'd have to pick... 1: Queen of the Spiders 2: Mordenkainen's Fantastic Adventure 3: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks 4: Dwellers of the Forbidden City 5: The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun (despite it having the worst art ever) Unless we're expanding out to include other game systems, in which...

    Q1 2009 Products

Yup, he understands that this is not Planescape. At the same time, it's close enough that you could probably lift elements from The Great Beyond and port them directly into Planescape without TOO much work. That said, Planescape is not open content; we couldn't riff too much off of it even if...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder RPG Beta Preview 3

Also: the way traps work is very much not finished. We want traps to be able to scale up as far as monsters, and the implied "topping out" at CR 10 is what we're trying to avoid. Personally... I do think that a trap that just shoots a single 9th level spell at you is not worthy of a CR 19...

Pathfinder 1E An SRD for Pathfinder?

Yup; we're working on that right now, I believe.

Pathfinder 1E An SRD for Pathfinder?

I strongly suspect there'll be some sort of something or other like an SRD for the Pathfinder RPG, but we're still too far out to know exactly what something like that would contain.

Haunts - How would you run them?

Unless you multiclass into Monk at that level, or something crazy like that! :)

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder overhaul suggestions, pt. 2

This is a very interesting idea... I'll make sure Jason sees this thread. (It's too late to do anything about this in the Beta, of course... but since we're a year or so away from sending the final RPG to print, there's PLENTY of time to try this out!)

So, what did all the cool RPG designers do, originally?

I worked for Steve Oliff, founder of Olyoptics, for a few summers. I got to re-ink an issue of Sandman that came in too faded to work well as color guides, and also worked on Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, a short series called Atomic Age, and a few others (I got to color a page of Akira as...

So, what did all the cool RPG designers do, originally?

A little bit of everything, in my case; a list of the jobs I've had includes commercial salmon fisherman, movie theater assistant manager, comic book colorist, customer service rep, order processor for sales, data entry monkey for the Department of Health, and The Temp (AKA the guy who comes in...

No stat blocks in modules per the GSL?

Correct. We'd basically do this for, say, a kraken: Kraken CR 12 hp 290 (MM 162) A strict reading of the GSL would seem to me to indicate that a 3rd party adventure could only use the word "Kraken," since the rest (CR and hp) aren't open content or in the SRD. And since you can't cite page...

New 4e campaign using Pathfinder's RotRL - Am I crazy?

I am, of course, VERY curious to know how this turns out for ya, if it's more work/trouble than it's worth, and how close the final converted adventure resembles the original. I suspect you'll be making up a LOT of monster stat blocks out of the blue, though... I mean... there's a goblin bard...

    Best Organized Adventure?

Interesting observation... Since I'm always looking for ways to make the adventures easier to run (without making them tougher to read... sometimes a tough balancing act, that!), what exactly do you mean by "background" material vs. "encounter" material? We try to make sure all the monster...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: Encounter Design Simplified

Yeah! Great stuff, Wulf!!! Jason HAS been looking this over, but he's scrambling to get Alpha 3 ready for release so if he hasn't gotten back to you yet... that is indeed the reason why. It's a great example of why an open playtest of rules is a good thing. I really like how simple the system...

Huzzah! Red Hand of Doom finished!

Which is why Pathfinder Adventure Paths stop at 15th level or so, just about when the high level problems REALLY start kicking in. ;)
