    Aging and Gaming

Dumb and Dumber, and this story makes me sad. 😅

    Aging and Gaming

My experience is that it was a thousand times easier to schedule games in my teens and twenties. Only as an adult have I had regular flaking, to the point that in a group of 6 players there was more than once that only a single player showed, and of the 5 that didn't show, only 1 or 2 gave me...

    Aging and Gaming

The thing I know is age-related is my gravitation to lighter games, mostly due to time. Time to read, truly learn, and prep stuff is very low, so I have to be able to do it quickly. Complex interconnectivity of rules has become a no-no. But almost as important as that is that my experience has...

Shadowdark Shadowdark or Worlds w/o numbers?

There's less "saving throws" in SD overall, but they aren't completely gone, so about modifiers do matter for a bunch of spells and occasionally magic item effects. They also matter when improvising actions, which is very, very common IME.

    Trailer Superman Teaser Trailer

Oh wow, I forgot about that! Two people who I would trust with so many things, none of which include Superman

    Trailer Superman Teaser Trailer

Aronofsky had a version of Batman he was working on that was a complete shakeup. Despite his pedigree, nothing about it sounded even vaguely exciting.

Shadowdark Shadowdark or Worlds w/o numbers?

Also late, also voting Shadowdark if for no other reason than because converting classic adventures is a breeze. And indeed, you don't have to stick with torch-timers. I use classic turns with the event die from Knave and/or Errant and it works just fine. Only "tweak" you need to consider...

    Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

Ouch! I was wondering if that was out; I wasn't interested, but the big names made me think it would happen. Surprised to see it's in this state currently. Same as you. I almost pledged but then thought "I'll just pick it up at retail." And then he went on to do Lifted Vol 1 for Cortex Prime...

    Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

Are they still fulfilling orders from their store? I vaguely recall for a time this didn't appear to be happening.

    Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

Hunter's Mark: Long Live the Hunt is especially egregious as the creator did not one but TWO Kickstarter campaigns for the same project (the second was vaguely framed as a retailer's package, I believe), and then ghosted everyone. They opened a Patreon for print and play paper minis a while...

Your Most Useful and Most Used RPG Products

I want these so bad but I just don't have the room. Is it bad that my goal of "buy a house" is really "...to hold all my gaming stuff"?

Your Most Useful and Most Used RPG Products

Knave 2nd Edition and Errant for old-school procedures, processes, and generators. Role 4 Initiative's dungeon tiles. Forged Dice Co Arena dice rolling tray. Savage Worlds Customizable GM Screen, though once mine falls apart, I'll probably go for the DriveThruRPG landscape GM screen because...

OSR What OSR System for Barrowmaze?

Shadowdark. If you're doing a lot of dungeoncrawling, it's the best. Plus the Modes allow you to dial up and down lethality and spellcasting however much (or little) you want. To change things up, just replace the real-time torches with an Event Die from Knave 2nd Edition or Errant. This way...

    gritty industrial/sci-fi horror RPG recommendation?

My take on the ones I'm familiar with: Alien is great for being Alien. While it's got supplements that expand the field of play considerably, I really think it shines best as a one-shot where you and the players really buy into selling the Panic table results and pretty much working towards a...

Hasbro Stock Price Surges After Elon Musk Makes Comments About Purchasing Company

I suspect because these articles get clicks and comments. Lots of them. Which is kinda VERY IRONIC given the topic. But yet...here you and I are, as well.

    JRPG style TTRPGs

For sure, but it wasn't the only thing. The immediate compatibility with other OSR stuff was more the issue for me and my group.

    JRPG style TTRPGs

There's also Heroes of Cerulea. (I have no experience with it, but it seems cool!) My experiences: Fabula Ultima has a lot of good things going for it, but its devotion to modeling early console RPG combat causes it to become a little hard for me to sync fiction and mechanics. If that's the...

Good video game strategy guides for TTRPG inspiration?

Recently, Limithron (of Pirate Borg fame) mentioned in a YouTube video how he uses video game strategy guides (among other media) as inspiration for adventures, maps, NPCs and so on. He specifically shows off the one for Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, and it looks pretty dope. I'm not a huge...

    West Marches Primer?

Some smaller sandbox adventures/campaigns are good for this, because you can string a few together. Black Apple Braugh, Tomb Raiders of the Crystal Frontier, Beyond the Borderlands #s 1-3. Bigger works can do this, but IME they may require considerably more work because you have to understand...
