Huh? BG3 adapts the 5th Edition of D&D. We are currently in the 5th Edition of D&D. Or are you referring to the 2024 revised rules, which are still 5th Edition? The 2024 rules are about as far away from the 2014 rules as the BG3 adaptation of those rules are themselves. It's fine.

Don't let the perfect become the enemy of the good. The 2024 rules fall flat in a few places, and this is one of them for many . . . for opposing reasons! But overall, still a solid update to the game, a game already pretty darn solid!

I agree that seems to be the intent, and it is logical but . . . not clearly stated in the new Monster Manual, and it should be. You shouldn't have to watch hours of the dev team talking about each creature category to get this info, it should be clearly stated in the book.

It doesn't bother me, but how I would have handled it is . . . Do exactly what WotC did, PLUS, 1) included suggestions for modifying those statblocks by species, and 2) include some bespoke drow, orc, etc statblocks in addition to the generic humanoid statblocks. Best of both worlds!

I really don't think the intent behind the 3D VTT is to automate and replace your tabletop games. It's for folks who want to or need to play online. A VTT with automation that . . . works consistently . . . and can be turned off as needed . . . would be wonderful for online gaming.

Disney, or Marvel, has produced a new RPG . . . that doesn't use the D&D 5E engine. So, yeah. Any major franchise that gets a new game, like Star Wars or Marvel, what is their incentive to use the D&D rules? I can't really think of one. Heck, even if Disney put out a new Star Wars RPG that...
