Eladrin Soldier and Wizard of the Spiral Tower

I would have to see the wording of the Feat, as well as the PP power that lets you replace your implement with a sword, but I have my doubts about that. Wish I could say more than that, but I can't take a very close look at the rules right now.

    What's broken/overpowered? What's weak?

I'm going to say this again, because I think many people are not very aware of it, and it is a marked difference from 3rd edition. Based on my reading of the PHB, bonuses to hit are extremely rare. That +3/1d10 Greatsword is a much more reliable weapon than that +2/2d6 Maul. Also consider if...

    Greatsword is dead!

There are still some nice 2h bruisers... I'm looking at you, Mr. Maul. The Greatsword trades damage for a +1 to hit. Bonuses to hit are much rarer in 4e. The greatsword is still a valuable weapon because of this.

    What's broken/overpowered? What's weak?

The books aren't even out yet... isn't this somewhat premature?

I can't bear it any longer...

Yup. Attribute mods are the same as they were in 3.x (e.g., a 16 is +3, an 18 +4, etc.) He's just added the 1/2 level bonus for making attribute-based checks.

So is this indeed how it works?

Your conclusion is false. Just because we have not seen a dragon that rivals gods does not mean there is not one. In fact, I guarantee that if I take the Red Dragon and stick a pair of templates on it, I will have something pretty godlike. Of course, it also depends on your definition of...

Once per encounter powers outside of combat?

Sure, seems fine to me. Remember, he can't do this ad infinitum because healing word uses surges.

    Adding Templates To Solos

I'd probably add only the abilities the template provides, and ignore boosts to hp/att/damage/defenses/etc.

I can't bear it any longer...

Very cool! I started playing with character creation last night as well. Made a 10th level Dragonborn Rogue that could be a very interesting play. I'll post him when I get home from work tonight.

Irongorn, the Heavy Ranger (ranger/pit fighter)

Has it been confirmed that taking the multiclass initiate feat qualifies a character for paragon paths of that class? I read the Multiclass feat section, but don't recall an answer one way or another, and don't have my books handy.

    Have you seen this monster?

Frost Giants are simply Fire Giants with a different coat of paint. I'm guessing the situation is similar for Cloud giants, though I'd have to take a look in new MM to find an equivalent. Metallics are chromatics with a shiny sheen. They had similar abilities in 3e, so just the alignment and...

World setting, and your upcoming plans...

I am going pretty generic, but I'd like to give things a hint of Ancient Greece. Particularly, I'm going to base the Eladrin society focused on the concept of arete and the worship of Corellon. Not exactly a stretch, but I like the idea of teleporting Hoplites. :D

    An Example Character, Levels 1-30

Hmm... I don't think the hit yourself test works as well in 4th edition as it does in others. A better comparison might be his attack bonus vs. a few monster types of the appropriate levels (say, minion, soldier [typically best defenses], and an elite soldier). Though I suspect you'll get a...

    Mechanics and Roleplaying

Hmmm... perhaps I'm not being as clear as I think. I'm not comparing classes across editions. I'm comparing them within the edition. I'm not really discussing how Fighters "gained" options or Wizards "lost" options. I think that's a difficult discussion to have, because 3e and 4e are...

    Mechanics and Roleplaying

Sorry if I was misleading. Yes, there are other options besides the standard array. However, being the first option listed, it is the primary option by definition. I can see at least some folks using it because it appears to be the default option, if for no other reason. But my thoughts...

    Greatsword is dead!

A lot of fighter powers are focused around specific weapons, and the damage output is usually: X[W] + Str + [Weapon Secondary Stat] So, if Swords use Dex, having a 14-16 in Dex for extra damage is still pretty useful.

    Mechanics and Roleplaying

Given that the standard array (16, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10) is now the primary method recommended for character generation, the limited number of powers selection, and number of options (feats, paragon paths, epic destinies), how do you think that will impact you when creating your own characters...

    Special Armor

Yep, that's how I understood it. I'm not so sure about this; I think you can have a +6 enhancement bonus on regular old plate or scale armor. Seems to me there is nothing wrong with that, other than having a weaker version of plate or scale. But I don't remember the RAW off-hand.

    Total Powers Known?

That's just combat and utility powers. Rituals seem to fill a lot of gaps. That said, it's all about resource management. If every class gets access to all (or even 3/4) of their encounter/utility/daily powers, then what incentive is there to use powers at crucial moments? The lists looked...

    Are Eladrin the New Gnomes?

I'm all for that. The difference between eladrin/elves and gnomes/other short races is that the former seem pretty distinctive from one another, while the latter never were in any meaningful way. Oh, and gnomes are silly.
